"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and that your body may keep well, even as your soul keeps well and prospers." (3 John 2:2) Let us rejoice in the fact that our God is interested in our total being. We have been redeemed from the fall of man that took place in the garden through the blood of the Second Adam. We have been saved to the uttermost and at this very moment the One who gave His life for us is alive and standing in the very presence of God on our behalf as our great intercessor. The letter to the Hebrews tells it well.
"Therefore He is able to save us to the uttermost " completely, perfectly, finally and for all time and eternity -- those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for us." (Hebrews 7:25)
Now this is one of those verses we need to have underlined in our Bible. We are told to take our requests or petitions to God through Christ and this verse we just read tells us what He does with them when we do this. I have a dear friend here in Waco who is an attorney and I trust him and have walked with him for thirty years as a brother in the Lord. But, he does not measure up to the trust I have in Jesus who has redeemed me to the uttermost. We are talking about body, soul and spirit.
A great deal of our physical health depends on our mental attitude. We are told by John that his prayer for us is that our body will prosper even as our soul prospers. Our soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions. Last week as we were preparing to leave Israel we were being told by almost everyone that the airfreight handlers were on strike and that flights were being delayed several hours and then many times the luggage was not making it to the plane.
I told Ruby that we must acknowledge the Lord in our travel plans and not the plans of man. We thanked the Lord for allowing us to fly home on the 3rd of November and that date had been set for several months, by Him and not by us. It is not easy to refuse to give place to the thoughts of the enemy as they come through friends but by the grace of God we stood and rejoiced and thanked the Lord for the plane to leave on time and that our luggage (all of it) would be on the plane. Two hours before checking in at the airport the strike was settled and everything went smoothly. God is good - all by Himself.
