Fond memories are always so good. I am the youngest of ten children and two of my brothers were here this week for a short visit. We had a good time recalling memories of growing up in a large loving family. I was born during the great depression but was never aware of the hard times because my parents never told us that we did not have anything. A term that was used was “make do? By God’s grace they just made do and we lived an abundant life. Jesus has something to say about our everyday living in regards to things. "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his posse ssions." (Luke 12:15) Paul tells us that we are to be content in what ever state we find ourselves. I am very grateful that my parents were not greedy people and we grew up in a very content home. They loved to help folks who needed helping and they endeavored to teach us to do the same. "For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building." (1 Corinthians 3:9) What a revelation it was when the Lord showed me that he was not looking for folks who were willing to work for Him, but that He wanted folks that would work with Him. I see that many people today are doing all sorts of works for God and just possibly do not know Him. Jesus communicated to his disciples that He was in union with our heavenly Father and in fact did not do anything apart from Him. This was one of the major problems with the religious leaders of His day as they did not like the idea of having an intimate relationship with God. I pray that we all have a burning desire to have an abiding on going relationship with our God. "The words I say to you are not my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:10-12) If you will notice that the key for us to do these works of God is that we must have faith in Jesus. Why? Because He is abiding in us and it is the Lord Himself who is doing the work. The Father was doing the work while Jesus was here on the earth and now it is Jesus doing the work while we are here on the earth. There is a Kingdom principle at work in and through us if we are able to grasp it. God loves to give us good things and give them to us in abundance. When Elisha was prepari ng to take the place of Elijah the Lord put in his heart to ask for a double portion of the anointing that was on Elijah. Elijah required that Elisha must keep his eyes on Elijah and we are required to keep our eyes on Jesus if we want a double portion. In Isaiah 61 we are told about the anointing on Jesus and then we are told about our anointing in this same chapter. Lord, help us to grasp how much you desire to move and have your being in us. "Instead of their shame, my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs." (Isaiah 61:7) Glory! What a wonderful kingdom we have to live in. Praise God that we have been translated out of the kingdom of darkness over into the kingdom of God’s Son. Let us enjoy to the fullest our inheritance in Him. Blessings to you today from the heart of Texas. Homer Owen |
