As Peter opened is eyes once more the book was laid flat before him on the first page.
"Come a voice said "come step into the book Come "
He stepped in, the dark nothing surrounded him. He turned to go back, but there was no way.He could see his feet he was on a path so he began to follow it he didnt dare look back. Lightening flashed so bright it lit the whole place up, but only for a second. The
thunder rolled louder and stronger it made him jump it was so loud, louder than he'd ever heard it at home.So scared he began to run, where he didnt know, but kept to the path nearly falling over his feet he went so fast. He saw some rocks dived behind them and landed on something, what ! he didnt know." Ouch a voice said get off me."He jumped back startled it was that dark he couldnt see. "Get off me your hurting me" a voice said that sounded just as scared as he was." Who are you ?"Peter answered as he stood up. "Ime Lucy I followed you here" and she told him how she had gone through her garden gate too and she was here. "I hid behind these rocks" she said "it's so scary here". Peter said he was glad she was there with him and he wasn't alone."Where are we ?"Lucy said as they huddled close together. "In a book"said Peter.
They wished they were back in the yard.
The ground beneath them began to shake the thunder got louder and the lightening flashed all around them.
they held onto each other tight and peeped out from the rocks. Everything was moving and shaking. They sat on the ground they were so frightened of falling over as the ground shook under them
There eyes opened as big as saucers as they watched. "Do you think its an earthquake Lucy momma told us about that. The ground shakes and opens up. I dont like it here wish I was still back in the yard". They cried together as the whole place shook wanting to go back home. With the next lot of loud thunder The whole place lit up with a giant light.It wasnt dark there was both light and dark . It was good to be able to see. When they looked from behind the rock. They could see the jumbled mess. There was water everywhere nothing but water they could see it swirling and churning. The ground trembled under them the thunder roared and the lightening flashed, but it wasn't dark anymore it wasn't as scary. They watched opened mouthed neither spoke a word. The water split in two and half of it lifted up right into the sky. leaving a big giant space between it. If they had wings they could have flown right through the middle under one lot of water and over the other.It was still very cold and they both huddled together behind the rock.keeping watch, peeping out from behind the rocks keeping each other warm.They had been watching a long time not wanting to look away in case they missed anything, but they began to get tired so tired. Lucy yawned and said with tears in her eyes " Momma would be tucking me in bed now and reading me a story" Peter being the brave one hugged her tight and they fell asleep. So scared but so tired.
They didnt sleep for long there was so much noise. They peeped out from the rock the water on the ground was swirling round. like a whirlpool Peter had seen one of these in a picture in one of his books. He knew to keep awy from that it would churn them round with it and they would be drowned. They kept out of sight behind the rock, but peeped out. "Peter Peter look" said Lucy its moving and the water is coming together and as they watched it moved to one place and left the dry land there. It's the sea shouted Peter its the sea
and not thinking about being frightened he got hold of Lucy's hand and set off running. They didnt sink it was land, there was nothing on it. Realising what he had done he ran back behind the rock dragging Lucy behind him and they sat down behind the rock and felt safe again.
The thunder and lightening still went on and on. but as they peeped out. They noticed plants all kinds of plants were coming up. They began to get brave and
and slowly came out from behind the rock. There was grass to walk on and flowers and plants. They ran about trying to be first to where the next one was coming up. Peter had to stop running and back off quick as a tree popped up before him. There were fruit trees bushes plants of all kinds. Peter climbed up one of the trees and sat on the top branch."Lucy" he shouted "you can see everything from up here. Come on Lucy you climb and I will help you up". she sat next to Peter and they looked with wonder. Lots of different colours and beautiful smells. Plants and herbs and trees of all kinds. It was like a carpet They forgot about wanting to go home even about the thunder and lightening. They just sat on the branch together and watched. It looked so good they scrambled down off the branch and took off their shoes and ran about chasing each other round the trees. They began to get tired and found a nice cosy place under a tree and slept. They dreamed of all that had happened. Something disturbed them the thunder had started again even louder than before and as they looked up there was the moon in the sky it hadn't been there before. It lit up the darkness of the night . Then a twinkle and another and another, "Oh Look Peter" said Lucy stars so many we can't count them. I tried but everytime another and another came. They are lovely see how they twinkle. They fell back to sleep and when they awoke again it was warm and bright. "The sun we got the sun" shouted Peter and they ran round and danced as the rays shone through the trees. The plants welcomed the sun and the trees seemed to lift up there branches in the warm light. It was a beautiful place all the smells and the colours you could think of. Big tall trees that gave shade.
The thunder and lightening began again so in fright they ran back to the rocks, "Why are we hiding "said Lucy feeling brave. Theres lots to see and the thunder and lightening doesnt hurt us. So holding hands they came out from behind the rocks and ran towards the sea.What a sight they saw. the sea was full of fish. They saw whales and dolphins big fish little fish seahorses, crabs. All the different kinds of fish you could name. "Oh Listen" said Peter there are birds singing. All different colours and sizes of birds. They ran back to the trees. they were flying and singing and playing.Peter and Lucy forgot about home in the wonder of it all. They wern't afraid anymore it was such a wonderful place. All sorts of exciting things to see.They found a glade and both settled down and went to sleep.They slept so well all the birds settled down for the night and the moon shone. The stars twinkled and everything was so good.
They awoke to a wet nose against their faces and all different sounds of animals, They jumped up there were cows and sheep and wild animals too and those that move along the ground.And to there surprise man and women. They were in charge of all the fish the birds, the livestock and the creatures. They were given all the plants and the fruit for food. Then everything went quiet everything was done all done.
Peter and Lucy looked around. There was nothing left to do. It was beautiful..It was a lovely garden. they were in. A river flowed in it and split up to make four streams which watered the whole garden . Man and women were in the garden to tend it.
Lucy and Peter found themselves back on the Platform and as they stepped off it they were outside the garden gate.They each went in. It was as though they never left. All was just as it was when they left it. What an adventure.They never would forget the things they had seen or each other.
Peter stood and looked at the gate. Lucy stood and looked at her gate.
Thats another adventure.
