It's Time For You To Stand Still

As a believer, what do you when facing great persecution, cruelty, and hostility from the heathen?
What do you do when you are seemingly drinking from the cup of suffering and affliction?
How do you solve a problem that seems to have no feasible solution?
What do you do when you are "between a rock and a hard place"?
This message will give you your answer.

Psalm 46:10 says - "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

In this particular verse, the words - "Be still" - can apply to two classes of people. For the saint, it is saying - let your hands be relaxed or slackened...don't make any effort or put forth exertion...leave all matters with God...have no anxiety over the issue at hand...don't be fearful, fretful, impatient, or restless...be quiet, easy, calm, confident, and trustful...resign yourself to the will of God...and have an assured expectancy of His Divine Intervention. On the other hand, for the sinner, it is saying - cease striving with Me...abandon all your hostility toward Me...and stop opposing Me and vexing My people.

"...know that I am God..." - The saint will know that I am He Who is able to help and deliver at the last extremity. I am faithful and true to My Word and Promises. I do all things after the counsel of My will. The sinner will know that I am unchangeable in My nature, purpose, and covenant. Hence, he will feel the terror of My wrath as others have in the past who have dared to fight or oppose Me.

Exodus 14:13 says - "And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever."

The children of Israel had the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh and his armies behind them. What would they do? How would they possibly get out of this "life or death" situation?

Believe it or not! Moses' word to them was a rather strange one - "Fear ye not, stand still..."

Just when you feel like you need to run or do something drastic, your leader is telling you to - "stand still..."

This was the word of the Lord to Israel - Have no fear...stand firm...be steadfast...and watch how the Lord will fight for you.

Notice what is being implied here - In order for them to enjoy God's powerful mediation, they had to stop everything. They had to cease all their activity and give place to His. He would not act until they were "still."

You wonder - how many times do we miss His miraculous assistance or relief simply because we will not get out of the way or stop trying to help Him solve the problem?

Numbers 9:8 says - "And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you."

There was a serious problem in the camp of Israel. It was time for the Passover, but some of the Israelites were unable to attend - either due to their being ritually impure as a result of a death in the family or their being on a journey afar off. To attend this celebration in uncleanness or not to attend it had grave consequences - the people would be cut off.

What do they do?

Moses did what every leader should do - sought a remedy from the Lord. He did not rashly determine a solution to the problem, but took the time to consider and ask counsel at God's mouth. And He honored him by directing him to conduct a secondary Passover which would fall on the same day of the following month.

Job 37:14 says - "Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God."

Elihu was about to give Job a series of staggering questions which would hopefully help to solve the mystery of his awful suffering. The first thing he did was to call Job to attention to pause awhile, listen, and hear what he had to say.

"stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God" - He then directed him to - let your mind be filled with a reverence for God...be quiet so that you can better receive and understand...consider and weigh His wonders so that you can benefit from them...and draw a conclusion concerning your situation from His mighty acts.

Are you at your last extremity? Be still!
Do the events happening all around you fill your heart with fear? Be still!
Are you striving with your Maker? Be still!

Do you feel as though you are losing the battle against your enemy...that you are so weary that you cannot go on another second? The word of the Lord to you today is - Stand still!
Are you facing a crisis that seems to have no solution? Stand still and let God handle it! He has an answer for you! He will make a way where there seems to be no way!
Is your heart screaming out for relief from your continuous pain and suffering? Stand still long enough to consider the Mighty Power of your God. You will find your answer amidst His "wondrous works." They will  speak to you.

"Be still, and know that I am God..."
"...stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will show to you today..."

In a world that is constantly counselling you to take matters into your own hands or solve your own problems - God's answer to you is to - "Be still..."

Whose direction will you follow this day -
the world's or God's?

May God Bless His Word.
Connie
