Come, Broken Hearts, Come To The Physician Today
"God is the 'Celestial Surgeon.' " - Stevenson
"The extremity of the people, so far from being an obstacle to, will be the chosen opportunity of, God's grace." - Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary
"The Lord is always healing and binding: this is no new work to Him, He has done it of old; and it is not a thing of the past of which He is now weary for He is still healing and still binding, as the original hath it. Come, broken hearts, come to the Physician Who never fails to heal: uncover your wounds to Him Who so tenderly binds them up!" - Charles Spurgeon
This message is for everyone who has ever been - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually - hurt or wounded in their life. That certainly covers us all, doesn't it?
Oftentimes, what we do is this - we get hurt by someone and then suppress it - act as though it never happened or never affected us in any adverse way. But then we find such things as anger, resentment, hatred, bitterness, insecurities, pride, control, manipulation, or lust that keeps cropping up to battle us along the way - and we wonder why.
Actually, sometime in the past, we were wounded and we never received a healing for that wound. We never had the Great Physician examine us and fix it for us. We just figured that we were tough - Bless God! - and could get over it by ourselves.
You may be reading this message today and be looked upon by others as being a very strong person, but deep down inside you are not as strong as others perceive you to be. You are hurting and in desperate need of the "Celestial Physician's" balm to make you well again.
It's not true that time heals all wounds. If that were true, then "Time" would be God.
No, only Jesus handles and heals broken hearts, and then makes it so where it almost seems as though the painful incident never happened. In other words, He removes the "sting" of pain from it all.
Don't you think that it is time that you run to Him for a healing?
In Psalm 147:3, David said of the Lord God - "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."
Believe it or not - the Most High God "hangs out" with the sick, sorry, wretched, and wounded. This is the kind of company that He loves to keep. He seeks out those whose hearts are broken in pieces, shivers, and splinters. He carries a special relationship with the sorrowing souls. His principle work has been and always will be the human heart.
To those who are afflicted with mental sorrows...troubled in spirit...afflicted with griefs and troubles...or whose hearts have been made sad in any way - He bestows peace, ease, comfort, and health.
He alone can and does "heal." He had been anointed by the Father to do such a work...He is highly qualified to get the job done...It was for this purpose that He left Heaven's Glory...He carries the highest experience...and owns the only cure or medicine - His own broken flesh and shed blood. Hence, He soothes, cherishes, relieves, blesses, helps, and keeps the mourner - the one broken through sorrow or even the one broken for sin - as well as the poor and bewildered soul.
In Isaiah 30:26, He is pictured as the LORD Who "...bindeth up the breach of His people, and healeth the stroke of their wound." Through the invasion of an enemy into their lives, they suffered great loss. This calamity caused a "breach" or wound. God is able to effectually cure it and give them relief from their distress.
In Jeremiah 30:17, He gives the wonderful promise - "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after."
Have you ever been called "an Outcast"? Have you ever felt so left out of the company of others...been rejected by close friends...been bypassed for a blessing or promotion when you rightfully deserved it...or been emotionally "robbed" or "beaten down" by the words and actions of others - so as to almost lose all sense of dignity and respect? Have you felt the utter rejection - similar to that of a wife who was just put away by her husband in divorce?
"This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after" - In the Hebrew, "Zion" means dryness. Like a desert or arid region, you seemingly felt as though others - who should have recognized, accepted, loved, understood, or been close to you - purposely avoided you as one would avoid a dry, desert place. You felt like David described in Psalm 142:4 - "I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul."
In Jeremiah 30:17, God is saying to you today - "...because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after...I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD..." What He is promising you today is this - Once you were bowed down in affliction and sorrow, but I will raise you up to be likened unto a man in an erect position - in full height - and in robust health. What you had longed after for so long a time, I will shortly bring it to pass. I will replace your days of affliction and distress with days of comfort and prosperity. I will give you back all that the devil stole from you. They treated you as an "Outcast" - abandoned by all and abandoned to ruin - but I call you "Friend."
Just remember - The Lord Jesus does not grow weary of healing broken hearts or binding up wounds. As Spurgeon said - "The Lord is always healing and binding: this is no new work to Him, He has done it of old; and it is not a thing of the past of which He is now weary for He is still healing and still binding, as the original hath it..."
Therefore, why don't you stop everything and take time out of your busy schedule to show Jesus your wounds. He desires to tenderly bind them up for you and make you every whit whole.
His call is going forth - "...Come, broken hearts, come to the Physician Who never fails to heal: uncover your wounds to Him Who so tenderly binds them up!"
Are you going?
May God Bless His Word.
