A Tribute To The Word Of God

There is not a book on the market that is being assailed like God's Word. The devil hates this book. He wants - more than anything - for people everywhere to lay it aside, never read it, or believe its contents. He knows of a surety that if anyone does take it up and dare to study it, their lives will be forever changed.

"You may sooner expect to see the heaven and earth pass away and return to nothing, than My(Christ's) words to fail."
- Barnes' Notes

"The word of Christ is more sure and lasting than heaven and earth...We may build with more assurance upon the word of Christ than we can upon the pillars of heaven, or the strong foundation of the earth; for, when they shall be made to tremble and totter, and shall be no more, the word of Christ shall remain, and be in full force, power, and virtue." - Matthew Henry

"WHAT DOES CHRIST SAY? Of His Word? It shall not pass away. Empires, etc. have passed away, but the word of Christ still survives; it speaks with undiluted emphasis; it spreads with uninterrupted speed. All things that threatened to extinguish it have only aided it. Those things that once seemed to rise like mountain obstructions to its march are day by day dissolving like wreaths of snow in the sunshine, in contrast to the advancing and triumphant word of the Lord." - J. Cumming, D.D., Biblical Illustrator - New Testament

"In all changes God's Word remains true." - Jamieson, Fausset, & Brown Commentary

"Man's teachings change so often that there is never time for them to be settled; but the Lord's word is from of old the same and will remain unchanged eternally." - Charles Spurgeon

"The power and glory of heaven have confirmed each sentence which the mouth of the Lord has spoken, and so confirmed it that to all eternity it must stand the same, - settled in heaven, where nothing can reach it."
- Charles Spurgeon

"There can be no higher idea of omnipotence than to say that He upholds all things by His Word; and assuredly He Who can 'hold up' this vast universe so that it does not sink into anarchy or into nothing, must be God."
- Barnes' Notes

God's Word is pure and preserved...eternal and imperishable...as well as sure, firm, and stable. Unlike man's words which are vain, empty, and unaccomplished - "... it speaks with undiluted emphasis; it spreads with uninterrupted speed. All things that threatened to extinguish it have only aided it..."(J. Cumming).

Did you catch what was said here?

No matter what kind of attacks come against God's Word, they will always be turned around to promote its worth and honor. Glory to the Lamb! Who can do that but God?

Psalm 12:6-7 says - "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever."

All the sayings of God are true and faithful. They are pure, holy, and free from all mixture of falsehood, fraud, or deceit. They have been through the fire and have proven themselves to be a firm and stable foundation on which to stand.

David referred to the workshop, laboratory, or refinery where silver was tried and purified. This metal passed through the fire repeatedly until it was thoroughly, entirely, and exceedingly pure - "purified seven times" - clear of all dross whatsoever.

The refiner used an instrument formed out of a strong iron ring or hoop called a cupel. This was adjusted according to the width and depth of the amount of silver to be tested. The silver was then mingled with lead and exposed to strong heat in an air furnace. Part of the impurities were thrown off in fumes, while the others were absorbed. Interestingly enough, the silver remained in a state of agitation until all of the impurities were thrown off. When the process was finally completed, it became perfectly still - displaying no motion. At this point, it was considered to be perfectly purified.

God takes His Word or Promises that are so thoroughly pure in contents and preserves them forever. Nothing could possibly alter their influence or effectiveness in this earth or in each generation to come.

Matthew 24:35 says - "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away."

In this verse, the Lord Jesus Himself asserted that even though "heaven and earth" would "pass away," His "words" would not. The endtimes will show that "heaven and earth" will remain in substance but their quality will be changed. They will be renewed and refined but not destroyed.  His Words - on the other hand - will always remain the same by reason of His living power within them.

Psalm 119:89 says - "Forever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in heaven."

God's Word is not fickle nor uncertain. In fact, it is settled and established in heaven where it dwells and from whence it flows. It is set up as a standing column, monument, or altar there. It is settled above in order that it may be fulfilled below in the earth.

Which earthly man could ascend into heaven to tear it down from its place of eminence? To attempt such a feat is utter insanity!

Hence, any attempt to assault the Word of God proves futile each and every time - for its standing ground is heaven where God resides and mortal man does not.

Hebrews 1:3 says - "...and upholding all things by the word of His power..."

God's Word - or His efficient command - is guiding and propelling the universe onward. It is sustaining its weight, maintaining its order and coherence, and carrying on its development.

Who can accomplish such a mighty act like this - but God?

Even though man may rage and deny that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God, the ongoing sustenance and maintenance of the world proves him to be a liar and a fool.

Jesus Christ bears all things - the world included - and keeps them from falling - by His Omnipotence as exemplified in His Awesome Word. He is the "Word made flesh" of Whom the Apostle John wrote(John 1:14).

"In all changes God's Word remains true."
"...Those things that once seemed to rise like mountain obstructions to its march are day by day dissolving like wreaths of snow in the sunshine, in contrast to the advancing and triumphant word of the Lord."

Knowing all of this, we can rejoice with the songwriter who wrote so long ago -

"Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
His Truth is marching on!"

And be assured of this - man and the devil can't stop it either!

"...It is settled in heaven" - where it cannot be touched.

May God Bless His Word.
Connie
