The Rocking Horse
I wish I was just six again, when I looked in and saw
A Rocking horse with harness gold outside a shop's front door
Reminding me of days gone by, so long it seems to be
When I was Captain of the Guard my rocking horse and Me
And I fought Dragons like St George, and Indians them to
The French at Agincourt as well and then at Waterloo
And won a race at Epsom downs at Aintree I came first
A Legionnaire I was one to, with deserts craving thirst
I pulled a cart that's filled with coal and knocked on every door
And then a farmer who ploughed fields a shire horse for sure
The simple thing, in life we had when looking back to see
A Rocking horse all decked in gold, a saddle but not me
Oh yes I wish that I was six and be just Me that's all
Just innocent and free back then, no worries, none to call
And all day long just dream away, those thoughts so sweet and kind
Just seeing that old horse today brought memories to mind
Of Dad's two arms so big and strong that lifts me to the sky
And Mother with that special way of saying please don't cry
As on her knee we felt secure she kissed our fears away
