True Love"
"If you love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15
The phrase "I love you" isn't hard to say- anyone can say it. It's meaning it that's a different story. We throw these words around so loosely... even to God.
We tell Him how much we love Him, yet we don't keep His commandments. We live our lives any way we want to neglecting His word and still tell Him we love Him.
It really doesn't matter how much you tell Him you love Him, if you don't act like it. Love is an action, not just an expression.
One of the first things I hear when I witness to people about their salvation is... "I love God"- yet there is no regard for His commandments. They live like the devil, but that's all right because they LOVE God. There actions betray them. Their lifestyle is proof that they love Him in mere words (which isn't love at all). Does this sound hard? I don't mean to be, but according to the Bible the true sign of whether you really love God or not is not in what you say but in what you do. If you love Him it will be evident by your obedience to His commandments. When He says, "Thou shall not"... you won't. If you love Him you will keep His commandments, you won't break them and try to excuse your actions, and you won't try to justify them.
If you really want to know where your love for God is one a scale of one to ten, start paying attention to how you treat His commandments. Do you neglect them? Do you pick and choose which ones you are going to keep? Do you desire with all your heart to be obedient and are keeping them to the best of your ability? The answer to these will give you a pretty good indication of just how much you love God... or don't.
Have a great day. Real love for God is proven by whether you keep His commandments or not.
Love is giving, with no thought of getting. Love Arlene
