My Beloved
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant.
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood,
so is my beloved among the sons.
I sat down under his shadow with great delight,
and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
The voice of my beloved! Behold,
he cometh leaping upon the mountains,
skipping upon the hills.
My beloved is like a roe or a young hart.
Behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth
at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.
My beloved spake, and said unto me,
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
My beloved is mine, and I am his.
Until the day break, and the shadows
flee away, turn, my beloved, and
be thou like a roe or a young hart
upon the mountains of Bether.
Awake, O north wind and come, thou south,
blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out.
Let my beloved come into his garden,
and eat his pleasant fruits.
I sleep, but my heart waketh:
It is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying,
Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled.
For my head is filled with dew, and my locks
with the drops of the night. His mouth is most sweet.
Yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved,
and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine.
Lo a voice from heaven, saying,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed,
not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man
be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God
chosen the poor of this world rich in faith,
and heirs of the kingdom
which he hath promised to them that love him?
For he received from God the Father honour and glory,
when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee,
that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
