"A BIT OF A LIFT" * * * Poetry is the spice of lifeThat lifts a soul in need. When strife has cut you like a knife, A poem is what you read. * * * Your brain is like a set of wires That takes the best of care. To read a poem your heart inspires-- Eliminates repair. * * * So, if your faith and hope expires, Just read some soothing ode, And sweet desires run through those wires To ease the heavy load. * * * How restful are those words of prose That conquer ills in stow; To banish strain and all your woe-- Read Edgar Allen Poe! * * * So, keep your wires connected right, For all have roles to play, Each one a route to something bright, And not to sad dismay. * * * Just stack a pile of poems up, The prose and those in rhyme, Then read 'em all and fill your cup, It's so much worth your time! + William E.
