 Necessities of Life
I'm so glad I was born during the baby boom years just after World War II. I know it is a horrifying thought to many of you but during the 60's & 70's we didn't have cell phones. In today's world it is a virtual necessity and vital part of our lives. I agree in today's society it is a part of who we are, our personal and business lives would effectively fall apart and dissolve if we didn't have access to instant communication. Now they have come up with the IPhone that can do almost everything but cook your dinner and it won't be long before they figure out how to do that! I'm waiting to see how long it takes before they figure out how to get the phone to serve the meal. I recently had a house thermostat for our heating and cooling system installed that I can access from a computer or phone with internet to raise or lower the temperature in the house when I leave work.
Although I appreciate the age of instant communications I also find cell phones an irritant and invasion of privacy. I will be forever grateful to whoever invented Caller ID. They deserve nothing short of a national medal or at least the Nobel Prize. Yes, I guess you could call me a skeptic, but I feel like someday our reliance on instant communication is going to come back to bite us --- maybe its that Big Brother thing? After all I am a product of my generation.  An e-mail I recently received from Brother John, one of my subscribers, (I get a lot of ideas from my subscribers and am very grateful since the older I get the harder it is to come up with original ideas), got me to thinking about how the cell phone has taken over our lives and how if we prayed as many times a day as we talk to others on our cells just think how much closer we could come to God and knowing His will for our lives. Are we not told to pray without ceasing? 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 KJV Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  We treat our cell phones like we can't live without them and I do not think we could exist a day without them. What if we treated our faith in the same manner like we couldn't live without it?
Hebrews 11:6 KJV But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
 Faith and prayer are two of the pillars of Christianity, without them we might as well be dead.
Let's just say we treated our Bibles like we treat our cell phones:
 Give a Bible to our children instead of a cell phone. Carried our Bible around with us in our pockets or purses like we do our cell phones. Turned around and went back to get our Bible if we left it at home. Used our Bible every time we traveled and always used it in emergencies. These are just some things for you to think about. In today's world of hustle and bustle, got to get everything done, never enough time, time is money.  We must stop and realize Satan does all he can to keep us from praying and drawing close to God. Prayer is our life line, it's how we draw strength, and it's the power of victory in Jesus. It's in the face to face conversations we have with others that God orchestrates those "divine appointments" where the Holy Spirit gives us the opportunity to tell others about what Christ is doing in our lives and isn't that what we have been commanded to do? Oh yes, and with prayer there are no dropped calls, no need to worry about minutes or paying the bill. Jesus has already paid the bill in full for all eternity. You see He is on the other end of the line always waiting to hear from you. He gave His life so you could come boldly before the throne to receive grace and mercy, isn't that better than any cell phone? Try putting down that cell phone and picking up your Bible! Let Jesus speak to you through His word. Wisdom, strength, joy, peace and comfort, they are all waiting for you if you will seek Him with all of your heart. I do not believe we will have or need cell phones in heaven but we know the words of God we will have with us always.
