Prayer By Ken Pierpont
When Maurice was a little boy growing up in Florida, he wondered if there was a God. Lying in his bed one still, stifling night he prayed; “God, if you are there send a breeze.?nbsp; Immediately a strong breeze began to blow the curtains beside his bed.
That is how he described the birth of his childhood faith to me. Maurice was one of the coach drivers for our Mexican tour in May.
On the way out of Mexico we made good time driving from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo, but at the border we discovered that there had been an armed chase a few minutes before we arrived. We came to a complete stop and the border was closed for about an hour and a half. We sat still in the direct sunlight waiting for the border to open. It was hot. The air-conditioner on the bus was not working. The air was not moving. The sun was directly overhead beating down on us. The team members fanned themselves and drank water trying to keep cool.
Joking when I should not have I said; “Maurice, now would be a good time for you to pray for a cool breeze again.?nbsp; He took the microphone and sincerely prayed something like this: “Dear Heavenly Father, if it would please you right now we would be so grateful if you would send a cooling breeze.?nbsp;
We had been sitting in the stifling heat for about a half hour without a hint of breeze, but the moment Maurice concluded his prayer a steady breeze began to blow. The air came through the windows and the openings in the top of the bus. God answered Maurice’s prayer again and we were there when it happened.
“The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.?nbsp; (James 5:18) Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:24) “Ye have not because ye ask not.?(James 4:2)
