Isn't our God wonderful in His provisions. He always has just
what we need handy nearby just when we need it.
Years ago our family of six were returning from a visit with my
husband's parents. The route had us in the middle of rush hour
traffic in downtown Washington, D.C. It was summertime and
extremely hot that day. In the traffic jam, our car overheated
and smoke and steam were erupting from the car's hood. What to
do? We could not move, even if we knew where to go for help!
While praying silently, I looked out my passenger window and
there right beside us was a gap in the traffic that allowed us
to turn off onto a side street. We gratefully took it, for at
least we could shut down the motor and let it cool off, but we
had no water to put into the radiator.
My husband got out to raise the hood. Just ahead of us, in the
same block, was another car with hood raised. My husband went up
to it to ask the driver if he knew where we could get water. He
did! He answered my husband, "I also need water, but I have
nothing to carry water in. If you'll loan me your container, I
show you where to get the water."
In just a few minutes both cars were replenished with water and
the radiators had cooled sufficiently to continue our journey.
My husband also took the opportunity to witness to our rescuer
and gave him a gospel tract that the man promised to read when
he reached home.
Our importunity became God's opportunity to spread the good news
of Jesus?Love.
