Pride. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility towards one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:5-6 see also Proverbs 3:34; James 4:6 I think so many of us are proud, we don't like people knowing we are hurting, or that we are struggling financially, we don't like to tell people there are jobs we cannot do, but say we can do them, and do try to do them, this can also be pride, maybe your husband or wife has left you, and you say I can live without them, can you or is it pride that making you say that, If someone says something to you that you don't like, do you stop going out with them, stop sitting by them and completely avoid them, is it pride that is keeping you away from them, There is many ways we let pride come between us and others, pride that stops us doing certain things, because we think we will look silly, or because you feel its below you, and most of all pride keeps you from stepping out in faith, pride stops us getting closer to the Lord, and pride stops us from growing in Christ, we must humble ourselves before others and before God.
