Vapor

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."
Hi friends,
Without the Lord life would be unbearably sad. With Him there is the unspeakable joy of knowing we shall be at His side forever.
This evening as I sat at the piano reading through some music I have played many times I remembered the first time I heard it. It was on the evening of December 9, 1962. I was just fifteen and I took a young lady to Carnegie Hall to hear a wonderful young pianist named Augustin Aniavas. The music, Chopin's Fantasy in f minor so excited me that I swore to myself I would learn it right away. My young lady friend, who also played the piano, was as enthused as I was. We latched onto the word "bombastic," to describe the pianist's playing and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company. (I remind the reader that we grew up in an age of far greater innocence.)
I remember that evening as though it were yesterday. But not too long ago while browsing through my high school reunion web sight I happened upon the young lady's picture in the "in memorium" section. She passed away of cancer in 2001. I was immediately struck with sorrow I could not shake.
Friends, life is a precious gift. The days of our youth are few and fleeting and our adult burdens will crush us to death without God's help. Let us make the most of the gifts of time and talent He has given each of us, leaning on Him every step of the way. The day will come soon enough when we have to account for them.
Love, Your brother in Christ,
David
