There are a few good paperbacks out there, about Edgar Cayce & his dream interpretations for many.

Basically however, there are a few guidelines to study of our dreams we can follow from them.

Dreams fall into 4 major Categories:

1)  The purpose of our dream life is mainly to reflect back to us, in the silence of the subconscious mind, our daily, waking life and the path we've chosen to take each day.

These dreams always use props we can associate with.

For instance, every house, apartment building, car, (a vehicle), or even a baseball stadium , a hallway, these can be usually seen as props for the movement of consciousness in your life.

Our "house" for instance has a "basement floor" and this is your subconscious mind. (below the surface)

It also contains a 1st floor (and this is your waking state or conscious mind)

It also contains an attic (this is your higher mind) the one you leave behind on the other side, but will rejoin after death.,we call it the SOUL.

..................................................................................................

Vehicles:

..............in life, we all need a vehicle to get us around, so the subconsious mind in sleep will transport you or show you (in reflection ) sometimes, a vehicle.  These vehicles, whether they be a car, a train, a bicycle, are all methods of movement thru life.
in the vehicle, are you "in the trunk?".......as my daughter was shown in a dream to me......depicting one who isn't driving her own life at that time??

Are you driving your vehicle then?
or are you IN THE BACK SEAT?

I had a dream of my estranged daughter for instance, and she was DRIVING, and I was IN THE BACK seat talking with her.

Now, in "waking" life, we don't speak or even see each other, (her choice) and rule.
In the dream, SHE was clearly in control and in the driver's seat.

The Pun then is clear here.

As I sat in the back seat of her vehicle, speaking to her in the dream, it was a fascinating dream btw. the dream simply was a "message dream" and you all have them, but you probably don't know how to relate to them or understand them yet.

(I'll post the whole dream for you under SEDONA) for you to study if you wish for the symbolism & puns it contained.

2) another type of dream is the dream easily recognizable after awhile, as  the dream from indigestion, usually resulting in a nightmare (though not all nightmares are from indigestion of course).........you need to learn to distinguish them.

3) another is the what I term the "Message" dreams.

They are from our higher self, which as Cayce says, "stands before the Throne" of our soul.

They help and guide us and as I said before, I'm not entirely sure if it is DESIRE based, or EVOLUTIONARY based, upon the vibration itself, as an "evolved soul", as even Hitler, Idi Amin, and Hussein all had "Warning" dreams too, or "message" dreams to them.

But these dreams of course, are my favorite to have, as they will help us , guide us and let us know that we aren't alone.

4)same as #1 - but you can look at the brain, as a computer.
it's similar. And when we dream or sleep, the computer will be active, doing it's job, just as various functions on our computers do . Such as "delete files", or "segregate into a virus folder" , or File and sort, as in "favorites', etc.

So, the dreams of this variety, (like #1) are the most common of dreams, we do these all the time, and usually they are seldom remembered, because your higher self, doesn't bother you with an alarm to remember them.
It's simply part of being human.

The ones you REMEMBER especially in detail, are the ones you need to learn to segregate and value enough to study.

IF you have a dream that you are unsure which category it is, you can always give yourself just prior to sleep, a "Suggestion" asking the higher self to help you understand that one.

IF, it's meant to be retold, or the theme is important, (depending on how aware & evolved you yourself are), you will have another to help you along.

Don't look for it on "YOUR" timetable however,

Respect all dreams, and before long, this respect will then be seen for what it is, as a serious attempt to understand yourself, and your role in life, and the theme will unfold for you.

It's best then to keep a dream diary going, for as Cayce says,
"there will be before long a pattern to your dreams, as an unfolding drama, just like your waking life is.

DREAM SYMBOLS FROM THE EDGAR CAYCE READINGS:

The dream symbols from Edgar Cayce, are simply to be used as a "helping guide", and indeed may bear NO resemblance to your own dream(s) symbols or puns.

Reason being, that these are taken from very personal dreams, that he helped interpret for individuals in his life (see the reading numbers from which they were extracted from) next to the symbol's interp.

This then says, that each of us are a Seperate Vibration, unlike no other(s).........
No two vibrations can vibrate in exactly the same place, so each person's dream will contain specifically for them, a symbol, which of course, may be "helped" along for recognizing it with both Cayce's list as posted, and
even by studying the universal symbols (such as Carl Jung's Universal consciousness stream he spoke of)

Saying that, a "House" for instance, is universally recognizable to all humans, from the depth of Africa to the jungles to the cities........as an "abode" for our souls.

Saying that a "Vehicle" is universally recognizable then, for most humans............

so there are certain symbols that are from the "Universal" stream of conscoiusness, to which we all are sharing (the Akashic Records, for instance, are UNIVERSAL to all), but only the highly evolved vibration may tap them.

In our dreams then, this is the closest most will get to the Universal symbols shared by all.

With LOVE, you MAY tap into the dreams, vibrations, of another ...........

Love surpasses all., (again that universal understanding) that surpasses ego and pettiness.

So, to sum up, each person's dream is first & foremost, a dream for them to decide which symbols fit and which do not.
Each vibration is seperate & apart from all others, BUT, each still shares in the UNIVERSAL vibration, hence, will overlap and share certain symbols.

Hope this helps.
