Hello: I'm an Astrologer in the U.S.A., who reads many of the Dalai Lama's books, over the past years, and have enjoyed them all
immensely.

Presently, I am reading, "How to See Yourself, As you Really Are" translated by Jeffrey Hopkins.

I've enjoyed the other books in which Jeffrey & the Dalai Lama both  collaberate on as well, including  "Advice on Dying" and Living a Better Life. And I really enjoyed the past books in my local library that Dalai Lama wrote with scientists & Quantum Physics, that was most helpful for modern understanding of ancient truths.

It was in the latter book mentioned (Advice on Dying) that I first read of the  ongoing angst concerning the whereabouts and physical health of the young boy known as the Panchen Lama.,born in April 25th, 1989 Tibet.

As an Astrologer, of course this piqued my curiousty as well, as to his "Time of Birth", as I cannot find anywhere on the  Internet, this information or his nativity chart.

Since I also purchased and loved, the book in which the Dalai Lama wrote the forward to, called, "Buddhist Astrology" by Jhampa Shaneman, I thought it wouldn't be too intrusive if I asked Dalai Lama to provide me with the time of birth for the 11th Panchen Lama, so I might do his Natal chart for my own studies.

That would be of course the time of birth for the one known as :  Gedhun Choekyi Nyima

I also recently read today, a blog article posted here, about the one that China is touting as the one they have obviously chosen, and for this reason my husband & myself, have opted NOT to take a China Tour that has become so very popular to do here in the United States of America.
I think it's unconscienceable, to do so now, to travel and spend our dollars in a country that does these things to it's people.....including the people of Tibet.  So many of them are now being brainwashed by the Chinese Government from what I can see here:

(Scroll down to the 2006 Article about the Panchen Lama that is here) saying the UN does not believe:

It is with this spirit of  a united front and support of the Dalai Lama, his teachings of Buddha's wisdom, and knowing now that China should not be given more American money & tourism, (as it is being given every single day), that I hope the Dalai Lama sees fit to let me have the time of birth of this young man , so I may be further along with my studies of Astrology and Natal Charts of the spiritually blessed incarnations of all who are.

Please let me know if you have any questions of me, I'd be happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

Today is September 11th, anniversay of the Twin Towers, and it made me remember the nice letter that the Dalai Lama wrote to G.W.Bush back in that year, the same week it occcured.
I'm only so sorry that as an American, and especially as a citizen of both this country and of the world, that Mr. Bush did not see fit to take his wise counsel then., nor even today.

This , please convey to the Dalai Lama, makes me very sad indeed.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Deborah

Since I wrote this letter, and made a commitment that we'd not go to China....that is so popular a tourist destination now for our country,
I wondered often, if I had made the correct decision.....

Here was the letter back to  me from the Dalai Lama's office:

Dear Deborah,

I want to acknowledge receipt of your email sent to the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama dated 11 September 2007.

Thank you very much for your kind words for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us.

I do not have any information regarding the Panchen Lama's exact time of birth. Perhaps if you contacted the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute they might be able to help you. Their address is:

UPDATE:  (now 7 months later): March 20, 2008:
I'm glad that we didn't go.....

Tumult In Tibet

The biggest demonstrations in Tibet in twenty years have focused the world's attention on the Chinese government's rule over that country. On March 10, protests began in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, to mark the 49th anniversary of the failed Tibetan revolt against the Chinese Communist occupation and the Dalai Lama's flight into exile. On March 14, after police surrounded Lhasa's principal monasteries and arrested scores of Buddhist monks, the demonstrations soon escalated into random acts of violence against non-ethnic Tibetan residents, such as Han Chinese and Muslims. Witnesses said Tibetan rioters "set fire to large numbers of Han-owned businesses as well as a mosque." Qin Gang, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, initially tried to downplay the unrest as "a few monks in Lhasa [making] some disturbances." Despite strict controls over the flow of information out of Tibet and the surrounding areas, even the Chinese government could no longer deny the violence spilling over into surrounding areas. Riots spread to the neighboring province of Gansu on March 18, with demonstrators trying to storm a government office as "roughly 100 armed troops repelled the protesters with tear gas." Tibet's government-in-exile has said 140 people were killed in the unrest, while China has claimed a total of 20 deaths, 19 of them in Lhasa. The Chinese government "accused the Dalai Lama of orchestrating Tibetan riots to wreck Beijing's Olympic Games." On March 20, speaking in Dharamsala, the town in northern India that is the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile, the Dalai Lama called for calm and said that he was prepared to meet with Chinese leaders, but China has denied any such possibility. The Dalai Lama has stated that he wants autonomy, not independence, for Tibet.

China has unequalled armed capacity to suppress dissent, and has had no compunction about using it - least of all in Tibet, a land whose spirit China's rulers have been determined to break for more than 50 years. Well before this week's initially peaceable, and extraordinarily brave, marches by Tibetan monks to mark the 49th anniversary of the Dalai Lama's flight into exile, China's security forces had been put on high alert for Tibetan protests linked to the Beijing Olympics, explicitly instructed by Communist Party officials to do whatever it took “to bring those with ulterior motives under control?

By swiftly barring the monks' paths and bundling their leaders into police vehicles, surrounding or occupying Lhasa's principal monasteries and saturating the city with armed enforcers, Beijing's strategy was to stifle the protest at birth. It backfired. Outraged Tibetans rushed to the monks' defence, throwing stones and bars at police, torching markets, cars and shops and venting their anger on keenly resented Han Chinese merchants. Parts of Lhasa were set ablaze, the wounded filled hospitals, and revolt rapidly spread across Tibet and to former Tibetan territories annexed by China half a century ago.

Beijing has an uprising on its hands as serious, more widespread and, above all, more keenly watched by the world than the last big Tibetan revolts in 1989, which were brutally suppressed by the man who is now President and party general secretary of China, Hu Jintao. Mr Hu put down that uprising with mass arrests, torture and 13 months of martial law. Only last week, he emphasised to the leadership of Tibet's Communist Party that “Tibet's stability has to do with the entire country's stability.?There are unconfirmed reports of military deployments. But breaking heads this time could cost China dear.

The crushing of Tibet is a human rights cause about which people across the world care passionately. China's clumsy vilification of the Dalai Lama, a great spiritual leader manifestly committed to peace and tolerance, has made bad worse.

People who will never get near the Roof of the World care about the fate of the Tibetans - and a bitter fate it has been.

His Excellency Mr. George W. Bush
The President
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
USA

Your Excellency,

I am deeply shocked by the terrorist attacks that took place involving four apparently hijacked aircrafts and the immense devastation these caused. It is a terrible tragedy that so many innocent lives have been lost and it seems unbelievable that anyone would choose to target the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

We are deeply saddened. On behalf of the Tibetan people I would like to convey our deepest condolence and solidarity with the American people during this painful time. Our prayers go out to the many who have lost their lives, those who have been injured and the many more who have been traumatized by this senseless act of violence. I am attending a special prayer for the United States and its people at our main temple today.

I am confident that the United States as a great and powerful nation will be able to overcome this present tragedy. The American people have shown their resilience, courage and determination when faced with such difficult and sad situations.

It may seem presumptuous on my part, but I personally believe we need to think seriously whether a violent reaction is the right thing to do and in the greater interest of the nation and the people in the long run. I believe violence will only increase the cycle of violence.

But how do we deal with hatred and anger which are often the root causes of such senseless violence? This is a very difficult question, especially when it concerns a nation and we have certain fixed conceptions of how to deal with such attacks.

I am sure you will make the right decision.

With my prayers and good wishes,

Yours sincerely,
The Dahlai Lama
