Hey John,
I looked in the Globe and the Star this morning, but apparently they don't cover the election in the outer reaches.
How did you do?
Thanks,
Steve

Sorry I did not get online yesterday, but yes, I did win the election so for the next 4 years I will be a Town Councillor for the Town of Erin.

I guess I was more keyed up than I thought on Monday night, because after getting the results (we were at a fund raiser for a local youth centre) doing a radio interview and finally getting home, I woke up every hour or so all  night.
Tuesday morning was thus no picnic, but we have a tradition here of all candidates who can going out the next day and picking up all the election signs. You pick up your own plus any others, take them all up to the municipal building, drop off other people's and pick up your own and that pretty much goes on all day. The idea is to have almost all the signs gone within 24 hours.

So when I got home last night I was about done, fell into bed early and slept through until this morning. Hopefully, with the campaign over, I will get back to more regular posting.

All the best,

Thanks Elaine.
Yes, I will be busy, particularly this year since I was also elected Master of the Masonic Lodge in Erin for 2007, which involves a lot of visits to other Masonic Lodges around Wellington County. Guess it will keep me out of trouble for a while. LOL

Thanks Gail & Luce.
I belong to the Free Mason's lodge in Erin and was elected Master to run the lodge this year. Lot's of memory work and visiting to other Masonic lodges around Wellington County.

I guess I was under a lot more pressure with everything than I thought because I had a bad weekend. Lorrie was away at a conference Wed / Thurs / Friday. On Thursday I had the "runs" not really bad, but I spent several sessions in the bathroom and by the end my system was pretty well cleaned out, but I felt fine going to bed Thursday night.
I woke up at 5:30am Friday feeling the need for a bowel movement. Next thing I knew, I came to on the bathroom floor, so I figured I was in some kind of trouble. Heather's room is at the far end of the house and she would not be able to hear me.
However, as I started out to Heather's room I must have passed out again because I came to on the hall floor with a small pool of blood by my face and my arms were numb so I couldn't get myself up off the floor. Eventually my arms came back into use and I got myself down to Heather's room by 6:30. Heather called an ambulance and they came by which time my leg was shaking and I was hyperventilating from the pain.
At the hospital my heart rate and blood pressure were very low with the pulse dipping into the 30's and 20's. They put me on a pacer hook-up and eventually did chest and neck x-rays, an echocardiogram, a tetanus shot because my face and hands were pretty scraped up. Because I had been out for an unknown length of time they wouldn't give me anything for the pain and my arms and hands were very painful.
By Saturday night they were able to give me pain meds and by Sunday morning my only real trouble was the pain in my arms and hands. I had an elevated protein level in my blood that indicated either muscle trauma or convulsions and since no one was with me when I passed out they couldn't rule out the convulsions for sure so that was a worry.
They released me later on Sunday afternoon and now I still have a fair bit of pain in the arms and hands, particularly the left one, but should be on the road to recovery once the swelling and bruising goes away.
The joys of getting old  LOL

Hi John,

Sorry to hear what happened to you...hope you are feeling better and have had time to recuperate from the elections.  Have you been to your family doctor to have a thorough check-up to make sure everything is fine and that there is nothing seriously wrong?

Hi Elaine:
Well, things have been so hectic that I haven't really checked in with my family doctor since the spring. I'm due again early next year when I need to have my prostate checked again. Hopefully I won't need any more biopsies since the last 2 were clear.
After my inauguration (Tuesday Dec 5) things will quieten down a bit and I'll follow up with the doctor. By then he will have received all the records from my trip to ICU and I'll see if there's anything he wants to check again.
Now I still have a dull ache in the shoulders and arms, but no worse than if I'd gone out and done some sort new exercise that used muscles I don't usually use. During the day it's not bad unless I try to pick up something heavy, but at night after I've been in one position for several hours I notice it more. I guess the spring in this chicken has mostly sprung.
Take care,
John
