Silvara, Diedra, and Eleina sat in the tavern huddled together. Diedra spoke softly, a mischievous smile on her lips as she spoke. Young Eleina smiled at her mistress, then leaned back in her seat as if contemplating what was being said. The three fell women fell silent as each thought to herself of what was being discussed. Soon Silvara broke the silence short and spoke in a semiaudible voice.

"Well ladies. I suppose you find it deathly fascinating of how I live my life. But there really is little to be said. I am a mage and I live for the craft. I have never had time for men who just don't think of me as more than some woman. So that lets you know hw many men have actually played a role in my life. And I understand that you both have found that "happiness," but for me that just isn't something I'm looking for. And it's not really much of an option either. I mean think about it."

Diedra and Eleina looked at each other and shook their heads. Everyone in Elmshade knew about the mage women that were there, but none had the reputation that Silvara had. She was notorious for not direction the word to any man whom she did not already know, and the men she did speak to, it was always about business, never the other. She looked over at the other two and smiled mockingly.

"Oh come now sisters. You cannot expect me to be like you. From the day that Laurel gave me control of the Tower of Fire, I have put my heart and soul into protecting this land. I cannot change that which I am. I know not of anyone with the balls to try and make me change. So this is how I shall remain. And stop fretting so much about it."

And with those words spoken, she picked up her sup of the hot chikkar and drank from it. Eleina watched her in silence, while Diedra spoke.

"Oh for Gaia's sake, Sil. Why do you have to be so cynical about everything? It was jus an idea. And would it hurt you to just try? No, I don't think so. I just wish you weren't so hard on everyone, especially the men. I know you respect Raven, no more like appreciate him, and I know you respect my husband, and I know that you have come to tolerate the other leading men in our lives, but I mean, would it hurt you to just give it a shot? No. It would not."

Silvara laughed, then went back to silently sipping her drink. She watched her two companions as they looked at her. She had become used to the interrogations by this point in time. But she thought to herself: Who knows? Maybe I can change. Not likely. She looked at Eleina and then spoke.

"Young one, you haven't said a word. What do you think?"

Eleina smiled shily, and then spoke softly.

"Well my mistresses. I just think that sometimes, a good man is nice to have around. But I'm not saying you should have to find one Mistress Silvara. I'm just saying that maybe you could just give it a chance. It couldn't hurt."

Eleina finished speaking and fell silent again. Diedra smiled smugly at Silvara. Sil just rolled her eyes.

The three women sat quietly, each involved in their own thoughts. Teh busy tavern seemed to bustle crazily around them, and yet the three women remained silent, each lost in her own thoughts.

Suddenly the tavern doors swung open and Mathyas swaggered a few steps into the tavern as the doors slammed in the faces of two soldiers behind him. He was now wearing the attire of the Elmshade guard that was given to him by Raven. He came to a stop behind the door to survey his surroundings before clearing his throat. He flashed a toothy grin and addressed the tavern, waving to anyone who had taken notice of him.

"Good day everyone!!!"

He then began to move again before his two friends following him nearly pushed him down on his face with the door. He began to stride towards the tavern as the two embarrassed soldiers entered, now in the attire of the Elmshade Guard as well, and followed slowly behind him, rolling their eyes.

"Does he have to do that? I mean...I can understand him being proud of the new position and all....." Jacob muttered under his breath to his fellow soldier.

"Oh come now!" The other soldier, Thomas replied. "It was quite tame compared to some of the ideas he was proposing a few days ago....Honestly....Having someone trumpet our entrance anytime we arrive somewhere? We're the guard....Not the bloody king!!"

Mathyas seated himself at the bar next to two empty stools which his companions occupied once they reached the tavern as well. Upon doing so, the Captain tapped on the bar a few times to get the tender's attention.

Diedra looked over to the men who entered. She smiled and then tapped Eleina, and pointed. She leaned over and whispered.

"Isn't that the man that we never got introduced to?"

Eleina nodded and stared at him. She giggled softly, and stopped one of the other barmaids as she passed by. She whispered something to the woman, who in turn looked at Silvara and giggled softly. She then walked over to the other side of the bar, and took out three cups of the best ale and set it before the men. She looked at them and said.

"These are curtesy of the lovely lady over there."

She pointed over to Silvara, and just laughed to herself. Diedra and Eleina began to laugh histerically. This caused Sil to look up and noticed the barmaid pointing to her. She looked at her two companions and scowled.

"That was not funny. Now what have you two done?"

Both Diedra and Eleina remained silent, and just laughed softly, waiting to see what would be played out.

Mathyas takes note of the lady eyeing her curiously, as a soft smile plays upon his lips. Not being able to take a hint that this may have been a joke or a prank, due to the almost hyena-like laughter emanating from the two women accompanying the lady. He looks over to his friends. Three of them...Three of us....Good...There shall be no fighting over who leaves empty-handed at least.

He rises, collecting his drink and his thoughts. He looks over to his two companions, already halfway through their ales. He sighs to himself. and clears his throat to gain their attention. He sits back down quickly and speaks to them under his breath.

"Gentleman...Could you please show a little restraint....These drinks were given to us by a lady....No doubt she is observing us right now...And I don't want her to think we're a bunch of barbarians. We're gentlemen....No...Noblemen dammit....And we have to behave as such. Now come on....I'm going to go show her my thanks....You could at least do the same."

He once again rises, followed by Jacob, who begins muttering under his breath about taking the blunt end of his blade to the back of the Captain's head, and Thomas, who is gingerly trying to calm the young soldier down.

Soon enough the three ladies find at their table the three men whom the drinks were sent to. Mathyas takes a sip of the ale and gives a smile in the direction of Silvara , as if to approve of the drink (and of her just in case she was interested in him already), before setting it down on the table.

"Well....I believe it is the three of you pretty ladies....Or this one pretty lady alone..." He says, looking at Silvara, "That we have to thank for these delicious beverages with which to quench our thirsts....Being the Elmshade Guard is certainly a lot more work than anyone within our ranks at first made it out to be....And of course it works up quite a thirst as you could believe."

He winks at Silvara and bows to the three ladies, as do Thomas and Jacob behind him.

"If you would please allow me to introduce myself ladies....I am Captain Mathyas Steele....Formerly of the Norwood army...And the current Captain of the Elmshade Guard. You may address me as Sir Mathyas....Lord Steele...Or if you wish...Simply Mathyas," he adds with another wink and smile. "And the gentlemen behind me are Sir Jacob Osborn and Sir Thomas Percy...Two of my companions...Also of the Elmshade Guard as you might imagine. They served with me in the Norwood army as well."

"Well...That's certainly enough about us isn't it? You probably bought us these drinks with the intention of starting up a conversation with us did you not?"

He picks up his cup and takes another sip.

"So why not tell us a little about yourselves mmm?"

Silvara looked over to Diedra and Eleina, both who had clamped their mouths shut and would not say a word. She shook her head the two of them and looked at the man before. He had looked slightly familiar, and now she could place him. She cleared her throat and spoke, since it was obvious that neither Diedra or Eleina would.

"I see these two did something I don't do, but since you're here. That one over there is Lady Diedra Moreheart, and that young one right that is her apprentice, Eleina Dragonheart. I am Silvara Flameheart, and if you don't know who I am, you will."

She looks back to Eleina and Diedra, who are both laughing silently, and then she rolls her eyes. She throws up her hand slightly, and three chairs appear at the table. She motions for the men to take a seat, since they are already sitting at the table. She looks over to her companions, and in their heads they hear her voice.

'You two better have time to help these men enjoy themselves. Because if you two leave me, there will be hell to pay. Unless you want to conjure women for them, and I can leave, but if you leave me with all of them, oooh, there shall definitely be hell to pay.'

She looks over to Mathyas, and smirks. She sits quitely for a moment thinking to herself that now she had another man to toy with so then she says.

"Well what would you like to know? You haven't asked any good questions that I might even consider answering. So when you do, you shall have an answer. As for those two, well, they are just toying with me, and want to see me squirm, which shan't happen. I'm too collected for that."

She looks over to Diedra and Eleina, and smiles. She then sits back slightly in her seat, and crosses her legs, letting her legs show from the slit on her skirt. She raised her brow to the other two and smiled. If they put her into that she was going to make the best of it and have some fun.

Diedra and Eleina smiled to each other and sat back. Now that Silvara had taken the idea into consideration, and had threatened them, they could finally enjoy the afternoon. They both looked around the room, and then spotted two women who would be perfect for Mathyas buddies. Both stood and took the othe two men with them, and quitely introduced them to the ladies, and they hit it off nicely. They looked over to Silvara and smiled, then quietly made their exits. Before leaving they both menatlly contacted Silvara.

'Sil, we kept our part of the deal. Now play nice. I don't want to be called later saying that I have to and fix something you have broken. And please, don't set him on fire, not yet.' Diedra said.

'Yes mistress Silvara. Just keep it nice and clean, and tell us about it in the morning.' Eleina mused as well.

Then they both disappeared, and Silvara found herself alone with the Captain of the gaurd. She squared her shoulders and tossed back her hair. It was to be an adventurous evening.

Mathyas watches his friends as well as Silvara's friends depart with the women. He bids the ladies adieu and sighs as his men leave.

"They were supposed to stay for protection. You know...I'm sure there are more then a few who may want to take a few stabs at the new Captain....I hear some of the town members aren't pleased with the way I handle judgements on criminals. But I believe that such judgements should be handled with a level-head..Not with a quick sentance. But I am a skilled swordsman...I can take care of myself...And I want my men to have some fun."

He pauses and sighs.

"I'm going off on a tangent it seems," he chuckles. His good eye subtly sweeps down the length of her body, straying for more than a few moments along Silvara's legs before he returns to his senses and begins to speaking to the object of his interest for the night.

"I haven't asked any good questions mmm?" His eye returns from it's journey to look into Silvara's eyes flirtaciously as he begins to pour on his charm. "Well my dear...Interrogation has become an everyday routine in my life....I hope I shall be able to entertain you for a few hours with questions....Otherwise I may have to give the position up...After all....If all the women in the village are as hard to make an impression on as you....I may be too exhausted to ever catch a criminal."

He smiles and takes a sip of his ale. "I am curious to know what role an alluring creature such as yourself plays in this city. May I inquire upon what it is you do?"

He gently laughs and adds. "Or do you simply have a group of men in this village so deeply and hopelessly in love with you that you need not lift a finger at all?"

Silvara cocks her head, and looks at Mathyas. She laughs softly, as she listens, then, after uncrossing her legs, and crossing them again in the opposite direction, she speaks.

"As a matter of fact, I am a third of the mage trinity. I am mage of the fire tower, and well, to answer your question as to what I do... I do almost everything and anything. I am in fact capable of doing things for myself. As for having men deeply in love with me, that is yet to be seen. No one sees me often. And when they do, it's generally not in good circumstances."

She laughs at the little insinuation of always being seen when there was a crisis, but it was the truth. And the fact that she had left her tower to join Diedra and Eleina at the tavern that day was not a normal occurance. The two had spent much of their time trying to convince her to come, and she had finally relented to make them silent. Now she looked at the head of the gaurd sitting before her. She sighed, and called the bar maid, who came promptly to their table. She ordered a strong elven wine, and looked at Mathyas.

"Would you like anything? Another ale perhaps, maybe this time a stronger, dwarven ale? Completely up to you."

She tosses her head, throwing her hair back off of her shoulders, allowing the bareness of her shoulders to show through. If she was going to play the role, she might as well play it all the way through.

Mathyas simply nods to Silvara, taking note of her shoulders.

"I'll just have another ale thank you. I'll pay for this one...No need to trouble the lady any further when I'm already present and accounted for."

He watches her leave and then turns back to Silvara.

"Well...If what you say about your presence is true Madam....Mayhaps you need to get out more? The fair citizens are not all that bad. Maybe you could begin working on that army of male slaves hmmm?" He offers her a wink.

"If anything the offer to accompany me around the village some day lies on the table as of this moment madame."

The doors to the tavern opened and in stepped a gruff, dirty-looking man. The newcomer stood about 6'5 and wore a long full-length coat. Upon the man's back were two glistening swords with elaborately-designed handles.
Orion peered through the tavern, looking for the man he knew would probably be there. He spotted the captain of the guard, sitting with a woman, no less.
"Somehow that doesn't surprise me," Orion said to himself as he made his way towards the table.
Orion stopped just when Mathyas said he would buy his next drink.
"No, barkeep, allow me the pleasure of buying the captain of the guard a drink," Orion said. Orion moved to where Mathyas could see and gave him a slap on the shoulder.
"Moving up in the world, I see, Mathyas," Orion said. "Congratulations on your assignment. I hope you and your soldiers are all settled in now."
Orion nodded to the woman sitting at the table with Mathyas.
"Allow me to introduce myself, ma'am...my name is Orion Orestes, known as Ashanti (Angel of Death) to the undead," he said. "They do not wish to see me cross their paths because simply put, I remove the 'un' from their names."
The undead hunter ordered a bottle of whiskey and got a glass to pour the liquid into.

Silvara looked at the new arrival. She reached for her wine glass, and shook her head. The new one seemed to be the kind of person that she had to deal with often in her plane travels. She looked at Mathyas and asked.

"A friend of yours? Becuase he sure seems to know you."

She then downed her wine, and when the barmaid came around, she ordered a blood wine. When it was brought to her, she drank is slowly, and watched the two men.

Mathyas smiles as Orion seats himself at the Captain's table. He chuckles softly as he loooks down at at his his apparel. "Yes, well I thank you for your congratulations as well as the drink Orion. We are as settled in as I suppose we are going to get. But it's a little tougher than I thought it would be...It seems that earnin the trust of the people may be more difficult than I first imagined. It's still up in the air as to what to do with the old Captain...Grant was found trying to steal from the Village...I plan to appeal to the mayor for his say in the matter...But I'm sure you've heard all this. It's good to see our paths cross again. I take it the ruins still occupy your attention then?" He turns back to Silvara. "Yes madame we know each other...We did some work together around Norwood."

Orion took a sip of his drink, listening to all Mathyas had to say about the Grant situation.
"Yes, Mathyas, you know me too well," Orion said in reply to Mathyas' statement about the ruins. "But I'm afraid I'm not the only one that has an interest in the ruins."
The undead hunter took another sip and tried to make himself look a little more presentable.
"I wish I had come back to Elmshade just to pay you my well-wishes on the promotion," Orion said. "But I'm afraid that I may bring bad news as well."
He looked at the table's other two occupants and his face showed the somberness of his news.
"Mathyas, if my reports are true, and I don't doubt them based on my own observations, the undead are on the move," Orion said. "There have been several skirmishes to the north and east of here. I don't know if it's the ruins or what, but I'm fairly sure that a massive army of undead will make its way to Elmshade."

Silvara looked from one man to the other.  As she listened to the one named Orion speak, she sighed inwardly, for it seemed that even on her supposed time off, she would have to be hearing about yet another invasion that was occuring in the village. She picked up her wine, and took a sip. This information was something she could use later to alert the rest of the trinity. She looked over to Mathyas, and sighs. Oh it seemed that it would be a very long evening for her.

Orion noticed the woman's uneasiness in her chair. He arose from his chair after putting away the rest of his drink.
"I am terribly sorry...I can see that you two were probably having a little relaxing time together," Orion said. "Mathyas, I could stop by the guardhouse at a more convienent time to discuss this further. But why don't you two enjoy the rest of the evening alone?"
Orion turns to go.

The captain nodded a farewell to his friend.

"This is quite unsettling news. We will talk about this in length soon my friend....For now, rest easy...This village is well guarded."

He looked to Silvara.

"You seem to be a bit uneasy m'lady....Is something wrong? I'm not making you uncomfortable am I?"

Silvara looked at the captain and shook her head.

"No, I'm not uncomfortable, and no you are not making me feel uncomfortable. It's just that I spend all my time listening to invasion stories and taking care of them. And just for once I wish I didn't have to hear about them soo quickly. I'm on my time off, not that it makes any difference, but that's that."

She called to the barmaid, who in turn came with an iron cup. She poured a dark liquid in it, and handed it to Silvara, who in turn stood and walked over to the fire, setting the cup in the flames. She lingered there for a moment, letting the flames lap at her skin. The heat didn't seem to bother her, and the flames didn't hurt her. She walked back to the table and took a seat. She flipped her hair and looked at Mathyas. Something needed to happen. This lovely little game she had been put up to playing by Diedra and Eleina had become somethig of a bore. She didn't know what the captain of the gaurds had in mind, but she knew that if something didn't happen she might blow something up.

She looked over at the captain of the gaurds. He was fairly handsome, and maybe not so much of a waste of time, but she was truly getting bored. Maybe he would do something. It was the time in history where the men did the work. The women just hinted. So she did. She crossed her legs and threw back her shoulders.

"So... tell me something. Anything.  Ask questions. Let's get this thing going, shall we?"
