Shield of Strength

[email protected]

The Northern Mines of Elmshade are small compared to most, but are still considered important.  Things usually are very easy and laid back at the mines, but that all changes when the miners report an eerie sound coming from within the mine.  Afraid of either ghosts or demons, the miners now refuse to enter the mines.  The overseer of the mine is furious.  The delay in operations will cause concern for those appointed over him.  Not wanting to have others tell him how to operate his mine, the overseer finds warriors willing to investigate, and instructs them to find out where the eerier sound is coming from and destroy it.

Shield of Strength

"The miners reported hearing a soft humming sound, and some even saw a blue light.  I don't know what it is.  That's why I'm sending you down there.  It was enough to keep the miners from goin back it, so what do you think?" Dallas says in response to Beatrix's questions.  "I am glad to here your enthusiasm, and know you will not fail me."

After returning from worship, Jarrod discovers something wrong within the mines.  As he searches for the overseer, one of the miners tells him that Dallas wants to see him as soon as possible, and points him in his direction.  When Dallas sees Jarrod, he stops what he is doing, and says, "Jarrod, something has happened within the mine, walk with me while I explain."  Dallas then begins walking back to the room.  Along the way, Dallas tells Jarrod what has happened.  "Something has been discovered within the mines, and now the miners refuse to go in." Dallas then explains the sound, and the light.  "I have sent in Isamu and Beatrix already to investigate, and would like you to go as well.  They might need your help."  The two of them them arrive at the room where Dallas explains where everything is.  "Now, the two warriors have not been gone long, so if you hurry, you might catch them before they get to the bottom level."

As the two warriors met up at the ladder well, a soft humming can be heard ever so slightly coming from below.  The sound of the humming brought chill to the air, causing goose bumps to rise on the two, and giving them a sense of urgency.

Jarrod nods to Dallas as he explains what's going on.

"I will join them as soon as I can," he says, gathering his things before leaving.

The cleric would rush to catch up with the two warriors, wondering what could possibly be down in those mines.

Isamu looked over the woman's shoulder at the man rushing down the corridor.  His uniform and holy symbol around his neck told Isamu he was a cleric who'd be going along with them.  When the cleric reached the two warriors, Isamu bowed his head to him. "Isamu Katachi."

The weapon master rose and waited for the man's own introduction.  Once the cleric had introduced himself, Isamu jerked his head toward the ladder well and walked to it.  Once there, he stopped and raised his torch to examine the way down. (Is it just a ladder?  Are there safety ropes?  Is there a pulley/elevator system? Etc.)

Shield of Strength

As the warrior looks down the ladder well, he sees that it is a spiral staircase leading into the depths of the mine.  The pully system is a series of ropes and pullies attached to a large bucket the size of one of the rail carts. (common knowledge for Beatrix and Jarrod) The system has a counter weight that helps pull the heavy ore up through the mine shaft.  At the moment, the counter weight is all of the way up indicating that the bucket is on the bottom level.  There is a crank handle that is used to control the bucket, and is used like a fishing rod.  Let the rope out, and the bucket goes down, wind the rope up, and the bucket rises.  This is bolted down at the edge of the shaft.  The only saftey devise that can be seen is the latch the locks the craker in place.  Other than the first level, there is complete darkness.  The two weapon masters, and the soldier look down, and see nothing but that.  The humming sound continues, as the volume increases and decreases slightly in rythm.

"Hmph" issued Isamu before moving to the staircase and carefully starting downward.  He kept his free hand on the wall (switching torch hand if needed) and held the torch out in front of him to light the way.  He was obviously making sure he kept his distance from the edge.

Beatrix nods to Isamu as she realizes its the one she was ordered to assist. She bows to him in return and then agrees with him. "Yes Sellsword is the approriate title." She quickly turns around holding the lanp up seeing the cleric. "Hello father, joining us on the excursion? Good we can use the godly help." She says this in an heir of non-chalonce. Looking at the holy symbol again she kinda shakes her head a little and looks down the shaft and then to Isamu. "Isamu, wait a moment. There might be more people comeing. Might aswell wait a few minutes and see."  sheathing her sai and setting the lantern down she grabs onto the rope and starts to pull the bucket up. "Father give me a hand, i wanna see if there is anything in this bucket other than stones."

Isamu came back up when bid to by Beatrix.  After watching her pull the bucket up for a few seconds, he grabbed the crank with his free hand and started winding it, causing the bucket to rise.  Looking to the woman, he said "This easy way?"

At this point he saw her sai  (OOC: the plural of sai is sai right?) and nodded to them as he cranked.  "Sai... How get weapons from my home?"

Beatrix watches the other weapon master reel the bucket up like a big fishing rod and she feels kinda dumb for not noticing it before. She looks to Isamu as he notices her weapons. Glancing down to the bladed sai and then back up to him. "Bought them off of a travelling merchant. Orcus was his name i think. They seemed more my style of fighting then the issued longsword. I even traded the longsword for the Sai. I then went to the local martial arts school and learned how to use them. Its a much more finiess style of fighting then the double edged chopping weapon they call a blade." She paused a moment as she admired his swords. "Kanana or something like that right?" she said nodding to his katana and wakizashi. "You use both at once or just one?"

Isamu looked to the Katana, "Katana." then to the wakizashi "Wakizashi."  When she asked about which fighting style he used he responded with "Different enemies, different fighting." He said as he continued to crank the bucket reel.

(OOC: I'm assuming it takes awhile to reel it up.  Also, since Tactical is gone 'til Wednesday, I'm going to RP Isamu cranking until then. We can continue to roleplay every though.  Also, I find it hard to read your text with that new background Arashi..)

Beatrix waited patiently as Isamu reeled up the bucket. "We must have to go down pretty far." She says looking into relation on how deep the bucket was. It seemed to take long, maybe that was just because she was anxious to go down and see what it is down there. "When the bucket comes all the way up and we see whats in it, i want you to put your torch in the bucket and wind it down slowly so we can see what is down there. Better prepaired then blind. you agree?....Isamu, your obviously not from here. What are you doing out here and why did you choose to join the guard." She looks to the priest. "Same thing with you father, why the guard?" After recieving there answers she looks to the guys. "What do you think is down there? Dallas said the sightings said that they saw a blue glow and a humming noise. To me that sounds like what i heard about Willow-Wisps but to my knowledge they don't go underground. Who knows, my job isn't to know what they are, my job is to remove whatever is down there if it posses a threat, but what do you two think  is down there?"

((ooc: Hows this Reyco? I'm trying to find a good background that i can use and is cool looking? Hows this look? easier to read? lemmi know))

Ragnarok, Beatrix's Black Lab looks to the priest as he approaches and starts to bark before he comes into sight. Once in sight Beatrix bends down and pets the dog on the head. "Good boy." she says The dog growls for another few moments, then calms a bit laying down next to his master, finding something to chew on until he is called to do something

Isamu nodded at her directions and threw his torch down the hole.  Apparently he didn't understand Beatrix very well.  He shook his head when she asked about him joining the guard.  "Isamu no guard, Isamu sellsword.  Honor bring Isamu to Elmshade."

(OOC: The background still has too much going on.  Try to pick a solid background to post on with a color that stands out on it. (i.e. black on white).  If you like a background, try posting like I do.  Make a table with the background you like and adjust the cell padding to about 20(my green one), then post another table inside with a solid color (my white one) and type on that.  It's just a suggestion, I find it's the way I like to post the most.)

The young cleric reported immediately and saw an opportunity to assist those in need, while  the church.  His step was both swift and strong as he raced to catch up to the other two warriors, who would most certainly be at the mines already.

When he approached them, he noticed the strange appearance and weapons of the warrior (Isamu).  This must have been a mercenary of some sort, although Jarrod wouldn't know at all.

" I am Jarrod, cleric of the almighty Torm and savior to those you need it.  I am here to assist you in your mission," he speaks formally, bowing to both of them, "what dangers are we likely to face down  here?"

Isamu returned Jarrod's bow when he introduced himself, then shrugged when he asked about what might be in the depth of the mines.  "Isamu not know this place god man, Isamu not know bad things down there."
