"I'm telling you not to interfere Raven. Too many Master Mages have already fallen. I know what to do, and I'll take care of it." The grey bearded man in Ravens scrying orb spoke commandingly, as if almost ordering the white mage. The old mans image only showed his bust, but even this showed his high ranking marks among the guild on his pointed hat...not to mention a rather magical looking amulet. Raven leans back in his white leather chair, staring back at the old man respectivly, while rubbing his temple. "I dont understand Master Penwick. My skills could be of service to you."
The old man raised a finger pointing it to Raven, as if to reach through and jab him in the chest. "The council is handling it. Besides, they somehow have a way to find us again, only after a brief encounter. They are specifically targeting the old Guild Mages. If they got scent of you, they would track you...even back to Elmshade."
This made Raven squirm in his seat, and reposition himself. He looks back to his wise mentor smiling. "Then take care my friend. I will pray to Mystra for your safety, and success."
The old man softens, and returns Ravens smile.... "Everything will be fine old friend. I'll be seeing you at the next Wizards Fair." ..and with a wink, the old man fades from Ravens crystal ball.
Raven leans further back in his chair, placing his fingers on his temples again, thinking. Ive got to do something. Even if I cant do it myself. Raven then stands, and walks out to the balcony of his Ivory Tower, sitting nestled next to Silvaras, and Arriennes towers. He looks out over Elmshade... "I cant risk Elmshade over this. But I can get someone else...."
Raven then grinns, and begins casting a spell. Summoning an Ariel Servant was simple, and it didnt take long before it was floating in front of him awaiting its commands. As usual Raven used these to send messages around Elmshade, and this was no exception. With a few wispers from Raven, the ariel being flies off from the tower...at excellent speed.
It first stops at the Elmshade Guardhouse, flying right inside the front door. They keep it open on these hot summer nights, to keep cool...hanging some of Ravens repellants in the windows to ward off the insects. Most of them were asleep in their bunks, except for Captain Grant... who couldnt sleep because of a new arrival whos staying in the tool shack behind the shed. Damn thing creeped him out. The ariel servant flying onto his desk in front of him didnt help either, scaring him out of his wits. "What the!!" After seeing the small ariel servant, he calms shaking his head. He was about to curse the ariel being, when it spoke."Master Stormcrow wishes you to find a powerful warrior for an important mission. Tomorrow morning at the Ivory Tower....dawn." ..it then flies out another window, speeding off to search the forest.
Captain Grant, looks around confused a moment, then a grinn comes across his face...as he looks tward the back door, leading to the shed out back.

Denora gathered the other two med packs and tried to get out of the way of all the commotion. Kanda was trying to protect her, but the huge snake was having problems fighting the gnoll who had grabbed it. At least its ax hadn't harmed it. The young druidess realized that she would likely either get stomped to a pulp by being caught between Tallacan and the gnolls, or injured further by the overly large dog-men. Father Silvanus, what can I do!? the coppery haired woman thought desperately.

None of the spells left to her would help them, Tallacan was busy in combat, and wouldn't be able to use her powers, the elemental she had summoned to help them had been dispelled...things were looking bleak in Denora's mind. So the lovely girl did the only thing she could think of that might save her. She shifted. The change happened relatively fast ((one round)), and while she hated revealing her secret, she knew it might buy her some time and distance, where she could find a place to finish applying the salves to her battered, burnt body. As the battle around her raged on, Denora's human form shrank and began growing soft, snow white feathers...((shifting to swan form to attempt a get-away by flight)) HP: 7/35

Kanda felt the harsh grip of the gnoll begin to hurt him, and decided to repay the favor. His long, sinuous coils wrapped around the large gnoll's throat and he began to squeeze. He tried to shift into a position that would allow him to constrict the blood to the gnoll's fat head, attempting to choke the foul beast. The snake wanted to protect Denora and didn't notice that she had changed into her swan form. Right now, all of Kanda's attention was focused on the monster who had grabbed him. ((Since the gnoll has a hold of him, I'm assuming that Kanda's to hit was automatic, as well? He will attempt to constrict and choke him, since he only has one attack. Roll crushing dmg: 9. Kanda HP: 47/50))

Avon slashes ot the hulking Gnoll, cutting into its ribs deeply and making the creature jump back from him yelping in pain.
The hound dog seems to be getting the better of the gnoll. It fights like a berserker, ripping and tearing away at the gnoll. It was taking some hits itself, but was giving out more than it was recieveing. By the way the dog fights, it looks as if it has fought gnolls before and always goes for the vital areas. The gnoll under the dog yelps and shouts for help in its doglike language.

Skeetch stands before the surprised gnolls announcing his authority over them. They all look to each other confused a moment, then turn back to the troll growling. In a wave of fur, spit, and growls... the remaining gnolls swarm over Skeetch in attempt to over power him with sheer numbers. All of them grab hold of his body and start climbing and grappling him, using knives and forks to stab into his body as they all envelope him like a swarm of bees. (15 Dmg. Skeetch Has -2 to all rolls till his limbs are freed. He can still move, just hindered by the number of gnolls on him.)

Hiel dodges, and leaps from the gnolls attacks. They do indeed chase him, but try to stay clear of the entangling grass as they do so. Using this, Hiel easily maneuvers them into his desired position where only one of them is close enough to attack him. He turns and slashes with his sabres. Frostbrand misses, but his other sabre strikes true and stabbs the gnoll in the chest. The gnoll holds his wounded chest for a moment before dropping lifeless to the ground at his feet.

Denora shifts into her swan form successfully.

With a single powerful squeeze, Tallican squashes the giant wasp between her limblike hands. Buckets of yellow gore drips from her arms to splash down below on a couple of the gnolls, and Kanda.

Kanda returns the favor, and constricts around the huge gnoll attacking him. The gnoll is indeed strong, and it takes an effort to accomplish wrapping his coils around the creature. The gnoll looks around almost frantic as it realizes its predicament, and its legs and one arm are pinned to its sides. (Axe arm is still free.) It groans in pain as Kanda tightens around its body.

The three gnolls throwing spears at Tallican all back away, and run to their leaders aid. Two surround the shaman to protect him, while the third kneels down to help him up. They slowly start to retreat down the hillside, opposite Hiel and the entangling grass side. The shaman pulls something from a pouch while leaning on his comrad gnoll. He puts something in his mouth chewing it up. Within a few moments he is moving down the hill easier and with less limping.

The huge gnoll fighting Kanda finds himself wrapped up in the giant snakes coils, leaving only his axe hand free. Instead of attacking he decides to test his own strength against the snakes and attempts to break free. His muscles bulge and a loud angry roar escapes his gnashing fangs as he physicaly tries to loosen Kandas grasp. (Kanda Str Check to hold onto Warrior Gnoll.)

A huge axe comes down over Avon again and clips him on the shoulder as he tries to dodge it. Drawing fresh blood from the bard, the huge gnoll snarls in pleasure promising more to come.

The remaining two warrior gnolls continue to cling to Tallicans side haking away at her wooden flesh. (5 Dmg) One however falls off to land on its back at her feet his axe skidding halfway down the hill. (Nat 1.)

The remaining gnoll chasing Hiel around the entangling grass decides to stop the chase as he watches the Sellini down another of his comrades. The gnoll pulls out a throwing dagger, and launches it at Hiel. It flies wide to the side, missing him completely.

The gnoll beastmaster fumbles around with the protruding arrow, and pulls it out of the trolls thick skin. He then tosses it far to the side, and the sphere of darkness follows. He looks up, now able to see again, and sees the battle isnt going to well. The shaman had fallen from his mount, and they were taking heavy losses. He readjusts himself on the back of the rock troll and points to the Ranger nearby. Shouting a few gutteral words, the troll rises again and begins to run at Hiel roaring. (Melee range next round.)

Skeetch warned them. At 9.5' tall he looks down to the trelf climbing heathens. They remind him of bugs in a jar. Really big bugs. And he was kinda in the jar...

Not dwelling on his powers of analogy Skeetch's crackling evergy blade sings an alien hym of death as he starts to wind it around in a great circle and thrashes it sideways cleaving into hte group of them. He ognores the scrabbling climbers on him for now.

The black extra-plannar energy surrounding the blade ignores any inorganic material Old Bone, metal, hide, cloth, leather, it didn't matter to his hell blade as it cut straight to living flesh unemcumbered. The blade itself is sheathed in a powerful radiation that hits as a +2 weapon. (NAT20 3d8+2+7 33dmg max)

Oh yea. And the flopping gnoll in his other hand flails like a scare crow as he hammers at another of the yapping beasts. (adj2 +3Str= 5. Th12)

Laughing thru a snarling smile Skeetch is quite enjoying himself.

~ ~ ~ Hi'el is pleased that the Gnoll had stopped to throw a dagger, putting some extra space between them, but not so happy about the Rock Troll barrelling down on him at a run.  The Silenni moves around the Entangle area of effect to help CONCEAL his next action from the Rock Troll, and temporarily KEEP it between them.  When the Shadoweir achieves some breathing room between the Gnoll and Rock Troll, he takes both sabers in his left hand while using his right to pull free the SECOND Continual Darkness bead, and BREAKS the shell covering it.  The Servant of Mielikki lets the bead hang on its leather thong, returning the other saber to his right hand, and closes his eyes once more restoring his bat vision sight.  IF the GNOLL is close within the Darkness or JUST outside it, Hi'el rushes IT, and sweeps the Frost Brand in a horizontal arc at about waist height on the beast. ~ ~ ~

(( Um...ok. *Tallacan didn't get to go last round. She was going to try and use the wasp against the gnolls surrounding her, possibly poisoning them, but...I guess nevermind. I'll do them all in one post from now on, so as to keep that* from happening again. ))

Denora shifted and felt the sense of freedom that always came from becoming a swan. She immediately took wing, flying away from the fighting treant and gnolls. The swanmay looked for a safer place to land, though it was difficult to see anything through the driving wind and rain of the storm. It also made flight a lot harder. Denora beat her white wings with fast, hearty strokes, using most of what little energy she had left to keep airborne and find a nearby place to land so she could finish applying her first aid. Then she would return to help the others. HP: 7/35

Kanda smelled the dog-like creature's fear. It made the huge snake hungry. He heard and felt the roar, felt the beast try and break free. ((Str check roll: 4)) The large, magical anaconda continued to tighten its thick, smooth coils around the gnoll's throat and opened his mouth to hiss loudly in its ugly face. ((Roll crushing dmg. = 7 if applicable)). If he managed to kill this opponent, Kanda knew he would be feasting well tonight. HP: 47/50

Tallacan had been planning to try and use the giant wasp as a weapon against the stupid dog-men, but the pain in her wooden body made her angry and she ended up crushing the insect instead. The treant saved her enraged words, knowing that the gnolls probably couldn't understand her anyway. Two of the creatures stayed to hack at her with axes and the axes bit hard. Tallacan knew that the next few chops would probably send her back to her staff form for a couple of days, so she wanted to make sure the time which she had left would count. One of the gnolls fell away as he tried to chop at her. Tallacan let him and concentrated both large, wooden fists into weapons meant to pound an enemy into the ground. She struck at the remaining dog-man with both of them. ((Roll to hit with both arms: 9 & 18))HP: 3/40

Avon stumbles a moment from the clip of the Gnolls axe. He straightenes up, and stabs forward. The Gnoll Warrior tries to parry the attack, only sending the blade to skip across his axe handle, and into his neck. Avons blade sinks deep into the gnolls neck, wounding it severely as blood begins to pump from the gash. Avon steps back as the creature reals from the assault, but keeps standing on its feet... weapon raising again.
The hound dog catches a new hold on his prey as well, gripping the gnoll firmly by the throat, the dog begins to thrash its head powerfully from side to side... literally shaking the gnoll like a rag doll... growling and bristled out. The gnoll clawed at the dogs face and neck, trying desperatly to get it off, but the dogs shaking flopped it around too much to get any good hits in. There was a loud pop suddenly... and the gnoll went limp as its head turned awkwardly... its neck very broken.

Skeetch went in swinging. Gnolls, and gnoll parts went flying every direction as he waded into them. Arms, legs, heads, and even torsos littered the ground, mixed in with slippery entrails and blood. The horde of gnolls still continued on... determined to defend their home to the last of them. They swarmed over the hulking brute of a troll, some biting his ears, gouging an eye, or stabbing a back. All determined to bring this creature down. (18 Dmg.) And Skeetch had only begun his slaughter, having not even gone through a quarter of their numbers yet. For a dozen more come running out of the right tunnel to join their mates in battle. The females look poorly armored, but all carry sharp daggers which they pull as they join the throng. Skeetch has to use all his strength just to keep standing as they entwine around his legs and waist, making it a virtual sea of squirming gnolls around, under, and over him. (1\4 movement. Make STR check -4, or treat as slow spell.)

Hiel activates his next darkness bead, and envelopes the area around him in a magical sphere of black. This easily envelopes the gnoll across the area of entanglement, causing it to slink down in defense and stay put for the moment. Hiel has to then silently sneak around the area of entanglement to reach the gnoll for attack next round. (Activate magical item and move around entangling area quietly to reach gnoll.)

Denora finds a clear spot in the center of a small copse of trees nearby. The clearing in the center is protected some by the winds, and the grass isnt as tall. There she can land, (Make DEX check -2.) and turn back to herself to gain access to her supplies. - Kanda tightens his coils about the Gnoll Warrior, and actually gains a better hold having easily overwhealmed it. Now both arms are pinned, and Kanda has the creature at his mercy... lost in strong tightening coils. (STR check -1) The sound of popping joints, and strained wimpers can barely be heard inside from the Gnoll Warrior, only his hand and axe acan be seen sticking out between some coils. - Tallicans huge fists came down on the prone Gnoll Warrior, both of them smashing down hard on him. There was a loud squishing sound as blood and gore gushed out from under Tallicans fists... smashing the creature to a gooey gorp.

The Gnoll Warrior facing Avon lunges at him, fresh blood still soaking his neck from the bards latest attack. The huge axe comes down hard, and it looks as if Avon stepped back in time to avoid the attack... but was forced back from the blow he had just recieved. He looked down to see his leather armor split wide diagonally across his chest, his tunic, shirt, and even bare chest were similarly split. Blood immediatly began to pour from the critical wound, as Avon coughed up blood and dropped to one knee... his sword clanging down to the ground beside him.

The Gnoll Warrior caught within Kandas grasp tried to break free again, but couldnt gain any correct position... and his breath was running out. He could no longer breath in, so constricted were the mighty anacondas coils. His brethren still clinging to the thrashing Tallican treant, could only hold on for this round. Tallican had bent over fiercly to smash his comrad, which would have bucked him off if he hadnt held on tightly.

The remaining gnoll down near Hiel crouched low in the darkness, sniffing around and confused a moment. The raging troll outside was not however, and barreled right into the sphere. It stepped on the crouching gnoll, crushing the life out of it. Its outstretched arms clothsline Hiel, and knock him into the entanglement area. ( 6 Dmg. Save vs Spell or be entangeled.) The huge rock troll continues barrelling through even the entanglement area, stepping on a couple more entrapped gnolls, and exiting out the other side still charging.

At the base of the hill, the Shaman, and three spearmen disappear into the swaying tall grass. Moving quickly, their movement through the grass is quickly covered by the storm.

Tallacan was fiercely happy that she was able to smash at least one of the gnolls and vent her mounting frustration. "TALLACAN CRUSH THE SO STUPID DOGS! YEP, YEP, YEP! SO BAD, HURTFUL DUMB DOGGIES DESERVE TO BE SQUASHED! SPLAT! YEP, YEP!" Denora had flown away to safety, but the wonderful music maker had dropped to the ground, hurt badly. Tallacan knew that Avon didn’t stand a chance with the rest of the ugly brutes around, thirsting for more blood. So, even though she was terribly weakened, the treant-like sprite scooped up Avon in one large, flat hand and grabbed his sword with the other, then turned to make her own escape. She could feel the other dog-men on her and hoped that she might be able to shake them loose by running erratically. ((Attempting to pick up Avon and his sword and get away. Also trying to rid herself of the gnolls currently attached (?) to her by running zig-zaggish, etc.))

Kanda could feel the beast beneath his mighty body getting weaker. Its whimpers and struggles only excited the huge snake more, and he cinched his coils even tighter around the gnoll, determined to crush every ounce of life from it. ((Roll Str check = 7 (-1) = 6)).

Denora could barely make out the darkened landscape below through the driving winds and rain. She struggled to land in the clearing she had spotted and touched down without too much trouble. (( Roll Dex check = 6 (-2) = 4)). Once she had landed, the beautiful white swan shifted again, forming into her human form...which was anything but beautiful at the moment.

Her lovely chestnut hair had been fried and was now matted in odd clumps against her wet skull. Her pale skin, which had been so smooth and creamy before, was now pinked and puffed from being burnt. It made the freckles on her face stand out in dark contrast, and the druidess was well aware of her bedraggled appearance. Denora was not overly proud or vain, but she was still a young woman, and the knowledge that she looked so unattractive at the moment only saddened her. As she applied the last of her salves to her burns, a few tears streaked down her cheeks, mingling with the rain which continued to pour from the heavens.

Denora also felt a huge weight of guilt from flying away and leaving Tallacan and Avon to fight the remaining gnolls. But I couldn't help anyone if I was dead, her mind justified. Even so, she was determined that after she had used her med packs on herself, she would return to help the others the best she could. ((Roll HP recovered = 3 total. *grumbles* I guess 3 is better than 2, huh? Stupid Die-roller. Grrr.))

~ ~ ~ Hi'el spun about away from the Entangle area as the marauding Rock Troll rampaged through it clipping him with its out-stretched arm as it passed. The Shadoweir was less than pleased by the ease with which the Beast charged through the Entangle area, but since it had done him the favor of crushing under foot the last Gnoll free of the plants clutches and was still charging away from him. The Silenni glares at the backs of the great Brute and its Master, and softly chants in prayer "Mielikki, ka'u Akua Wahine, kâu mana lima ikaika ua pâkeupali kôkua iâ kâua i loko kâ kâua Kaua, a me ka'awili ka kai iâ kâ kâua hana lokomaika'i. The Servant of Mielikki focuses his full attention on the Rock Troll and the Gnoll, letting the Goddess' Power flow through him to begin super-heating the chains, manacles and collar which should make controlling the Brute most difficult for the Beast Master. ~ ~ ~

    Range: 40 yds.
    Components: V, S, M
    Duration: 7 rds.
    Casting Time: 5
    Area of Effect: Special
    Saving Throw: Special

By means of the heat metal spell, the caster is able to make ferrous metal (iron, iron alloys, steel) extremely hot. Elven chain mail is not affected, and magical metal armor receives an item saving throw vs. magical fire to avoid being heated. The material component is a holy symbol.

On the first round of the spell, the metal merely becomes very warm and uncomfortable to touch (this is also the effect on the last melee round of the spell's duration). During the second and sixth (next to the last) rounds, heat causes blisters and damage; in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, the metal becomes searing hot, causing damage to exposed flesh, as shown below:

    Metal Temperature
    very warm
    hot
    searing*
    Damage per Round
    none
    1d4 points
    2d4 points

    * On the final round of searing, the afflicted creature must roll a successful saving throw vs. spell or suffer one of the following disabilities: hand or foot--becomes unusable for 2d4 days; body--becomes disabled for 1d4 days; head--fall unconscious for 1d4 turns. This effect can be completely removed by the 6th-level priest spell heal spell or by normal rest. Note also that materials such as wood, leather, or flammable cloth smolder and burn if exposed to searing hot metal. Such materials cause searing damage to exposed flesh on the next round. Fire resistance (spell, potion, or ring) or a protection from fire spell totally negates the effects of a heat metal spell, as does immersion in water or snow, or exposure to a cold or ice storm spell. This version of the spell does not function under water. For every two experience levels of the caster, the metal of one man-sized creature can be affected (i.e., arms and armor, or a single mass of metal equal to 50 pounds of weight). Thus, a 3rd-level caster would affect one such creature, a 4th- or 5th-level caster two, etc.
