~ ~ ~ Pushing panicked past half a dozen priests and priestesses, Hi'el swiftly flees outside the Temple into the early twilight dusk, and charges away from the holy sanctuary along the garden trails.  Gravel and divots of earth fly from the hooves of the sprinting Silenni as he blindly speeds away from the Temple of Mielikki.  The unknown trail upon which his hooves carried him parallels the small river leading north, and ultimately ends at a wood trestle bridge leading across a lake to a shrine.  Upon sighting the wood bridge, the troubled Shadoweir slows to tired walk, and plods across it to the hollow thudding of hooves on the wood planking.  Hi'el crosses to the island, and moves to it's southern edge where he seeks to pray to his Goddess.  Pulling out his prayer rug from his field pack, the Silenni spreads it out on the ground then kneels upon it facing the dying fires of the setting sun.  He falls forward onto his elbows bowing his head to the rug, and there he lays quietly shedding tears, trying to quell the turmoil raging within his soul and find the inner peace to pray to Mielikki.  Neither comes to the weary Shadoweir, who slumps over to the side emotionally spent and defeated by the haunting knowledge of a life wrongfully taken. ~ ~ ~

A soft breeze filled with the scent of fresh, green sap and wildflowers brushed the Selenni's senses. Opening his tear stained eyes, he beheld a marvelous vision...a beautiful, transparent woman, clad in shining white, arms spread wide in peace. A feeling of tremendous warmth and serenity began to cocoon him, and with it, also a sense of security and acceptance. She spoke, but not with her lips as she approached where he lay, wracked by guilt. As she neared him, she sat beside him with a smile of radiant kindness. "Be still, my troubled servant. I have come to calm your restless soul and to grant the peace and forgiveness you seek...."

Her voice was liquid silk, alto in tenor and sweet as the miasma of fragrance that surrounded him, enveloped him in love. "Hi'el Troiye, I have been watching you," the vision said. "You have done much to serve me and promote my ways. For this, I grant you forgiveness. But to absolve you of your sin against the man whose bright light you snuffed, you must perform a task for me. It will not be easy, and may take you far away from these lands....you must find one who will help heal all the wrongs done here in this village. Her name is Lillineth, and she is daughter to Siannodell." The woman shifted away from him, though almost imperceptibly. "Lillineth is with child, and both she and her unborn daughter are in danger....seek her to the East, Hi'el Troiye. Return her safely to Siannodell. Save two lives to replace the one you took. Then you shall be absolved, and your conscience will be tainted no longer...." The beautiful maiden began to fade, taking the golden green warmth and peaceful glow with her. Hi'el was left alone again on his prayer rug, and a last, gentle whisper echoed in his mind...."I will be watching you...serve me well, Shadoweir..."

~ ~ ~ Awe-stricken and speechless, the Silenni could only listen to the words of his Goddess, and raptly stare up at Her in fanatical devotion from where he lay.  The serenity and warmth of Mielikki's holy presence held Her servant completely motionless upon his prayer rug bereft of any inclination to move.  She, to whom he'd devoted his immortal life and eternal soul, totally absorbed his green gaze allowing for no distraction of his attention elsewhere.  She spoke to him, denying any other worldly intrusion of sound upon his conscious, and Her words along with the beauty of Her appearance were forever etched upon his memory never to be forgotten and always cherished.  And in the aftermath of Mielikki's departure, there was saddness that She was gone, but also a more deeply entrenched faith and love in Her. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ Hi'el heaved a soul-deep sigh of elation and peace, and smiled for the first time in many days.  He stared up at the stars of the night sky, and happily whispers "Thank you, my Goddess.  I shall not fail You or Your High Priestess."  He contentedly closes eyes, considering actions he must take before leaving... Alert the Great Druid about the Weremacht with a recommendation to summon a Forest Council (treants, centaurs, galeb duhr, etc.) at the Temple of Mielikki in Elmshade...  Inform the High Priestess of Mielikki's visitation with him, Her quest to him and the growing threat of Unlife, spreading in the northeast... But first, he had to find out where the faint strains of music were coming from and who was playing the music. ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ The Shadoweir rolls to his hooves, and stands bringing the prayer rug with him.  He rolls up the rug, and places it in his field pack before walking in the direction of music, his equine ears twitch and turn trying to pinpoint its source. ~ ~ ~
