Hey Everyone,

This time around we are doing things differently for the awards show.  Instead of the management team picking the nominees from our sight, we want you guys to give us your suggestions on who and what you think is deserving.

So, below is a list of the categories and their descriptions, please post your suggestions on who we should nominate.  The nominations are due by the 30th, so we'll probably take your suggestions, combine them with what we think, and submit Elmshade's nominees around the 25th, so we're going to ask you to post by then.

So, have at it and may the best man (or woman) win.

The Elmshade Management Team

Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow is the last day to post your suggestions for nominees and have them definitely be counted in the vote.  Starting Wednesday we on the management team will come up with our votes (which you don't get to see, mahahaha) and begin tallying them.  We are looking to send the final nominees in on Friday, but it might happen sooner or later than that.  If your get your vote in after tomorrow but before Friday, it might still get counted, but no guarantees.

We may try this again for the next awards show but there are no definite plans yet due to the poor reaction thus far on this try.

you can ONLY use material that falls within certain time frames. No-one ever posts the time frames well enough for me it seems. We can use material only from what to what date??

And last time you might have listed entrys that won but the choices were presented awkwardly. Things like multiple topics and over-long entries usually get disqualified. Fyi.

I assumed ppl were sending responses to this via email.

Well I would have thought this a good idea. I might have suggested a chance to debate mgr choices but after this no-show I would say whatever you guys say would have to be best.

Also, normally I would guess ppl don't post in the open in order to avoid any hurt feelings? I'll throw some ideas out there.

This is actually kinda hard. The categories are too many and seem to overlap at first glance.

NOMINATION CATEGORIES

Best Group
Any role-playing group, either based around a single role-playing game or focusing on a variety of games, that produces quality role-playing, has an active and helpful management, has members that contribute actively to the community, and shows constant effort for improvement.

Obvious nominatin. And I hear "Best Site"

Best New Group
Any group that has never been nominated by the Academy of Role-Playing Awards and shows similar qualities as listed in the above category.

You would have to be new since the last award ceremony? That's a small window. Every site probably wins this one

Outstanding Management Team
The combined efforts of all head managers and assistant-managers for a single group. This award will go to a management team that is active in participation with members, shows initiative, and excels in human resources, thread moderation, and site design collectively.

Obvious nomination.  These are all covered under "resource manager" "designer" "member relations" ect...Complete paradox imho.

Outstanding Member Relations
A group that displays excellence in dealing with its members; whether it is helping new members to become accustomed to the group, dealing with problems members may have, recruiting new members, listening to feedback and comments, and everything else member-related. This award honors the group as a whole.

N/C. We're working on it. Tons of improvment achieved!

Outstanding Site Design
A site that shows creativity in both design and functionality. This award honors a site whose navigation is easy to follow while displaying stunning layouts and images as well as creativity in how they are displayed. This award honors the group as a whole.

Wouldn't know. Newbies would tell the tale best. I think ES is visually cool for a MSN site. Maybe do more code. including me.

Best Role-Playing Game
Any role-playing game, with two or more characters played by two or more individuals. This award honors a game that has a creative plot structure, an interesting cast of characters, as well as having excellent writing, game direction, and concept.

We would do better here if I could have revealed my entire plans and characters motivations. =P

Best Original Storyline
A single story line of any length that is particularly well-written, has an interesting plot, and shows creativity and effort. The original storylines cannot be based off of any source other than the creator’s own imagination.

Hard to be original in DnD.

Best Adapted Storyline
A single storyline of any length that is particularly well-written, has an interesting plot, and shows creativity and effort. The adapted storyline are based off of popular media such as books, movies, or television shows (i.e. Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.)

Best Short Storyline
A single storyline that consists of less than 100 posts at the time of nomination and displays qualities similar to those mentioned in the original and adapted storyline categories.

What is the big difference from storyline category aside from length I'm not sure

Best Individual Post
Any single post that is exceedingly well-written. This post may be written by one author or by two or more authors working together to write a single post.  Regardless of the authors, nominees will only be an individual post.

Blank. have to archive that one. Would look at Laurels.

Best Quote
Any quote that takes place in a role-playing game that is too funny, clever, or profound to disappear behind pages and pages of posts.

? Alot to pick from there.

Outstanding Concept
An idea for a particular role-playing game that is outstanding. The concepts nominated should be creative, unique, and show that a lot of thought and effort has been put into them by the creators of the game.

I'm not sure how this is different from a storyline. Probably non-dnd games?

Outstanding Human Resources Manager
A manager or assistant-manager who displays excellence in dealing with its members; whether it is helping new members become accustomed to the group, dealing with problems members may have, recruiting new members, listening to feedback and comments, and everything else member-related.

Arienne is very good and Reyco is getting it down

Outstanding Thread Moderator
Any member of a group who excels in running a particular thread or role-playing game. The thread moderator should have a vision for the direction in which the thread or game is moving and answers members’ questions relating to how the game is run as well as how they move the story forward through their character(s). Both what they do in-character and out-of-character is judged.

Any Dm here is good.

Outstanding Site Designer
Any member of a group who shows creativity and excellence in site design, which may include layout and banner creation, page design, keeping the layout fresh and constantly updated, fixing errors, etc.  This should also include how easily the pages are navigated in addition to their appearance.

Up there is "outstanding Site Design" so I say whatever. But again I see Reyco trying really hard to keep things colorful

Outstanding Role-Player
Any member of any site may be nominated for this award, whether they are a member, manager, or assistant-manager. The role-player must demonstrate creativity and uniqueness in character creation and development, as well as have a clear vision of how the character would react to certain situations. The nominees of this category simply know their character(s) and play them well.

most anyone here

Best Leading Male
Any male character that has a large role in a role-playing game and is creative, unique, and contributes to the plot and structure of the game while maintaining interesting relationships with other characters.

Reyco this year. Most presence. hands down.

Best Leading Female
Any female character that has a large role in a role-playing game and is creative, unique, and contributes to the plot and structure of the game while maintaining interesting relationships with other characters.

I like Eleine

Best Supporting Character
Any character, male or female, that has a slightly smaller role in the role-playing game, but is still creative and unique. Though they play a smaller role they must also contribute towards the plot and structure and have interesting relationships with other characters.

Any one of my npcs or Rash.

Best Comedic Character
Any character, male or female, that adds to the humor of a storyline. Comedic characters’ humor may come from their speech, thoughts, or actions and they may display any type of humor. They simply need to be funny to the reader, given the situation of the role-playing game.

Best Villain
Any character, male or female, that serves as the antagonist of a storyline. Villains should be the characters that throw obstacles in the way of the other characters and add to the twists and turns of a role-playing game. They do not need to be evil (though they can be) as much as they need to go against the grain and cause conflict.

Our plot is so complex you can't even tell who the bad guys really are and your allys cause more friction than anyone. We may be a bit beyond the scope of this awards system? This category should read "Best Antagonist"?

Best Chemistry
A relationship between two or three characters that is creative and not something you see every day. The characters do not have to be romantically involved; they may simply be friends, or even enemies. The main thing is that they are interesting together and play off of each other well.

LOL. Throw a dart.

Malacai vs Cherynoble

Skeetch vs everyone

Rash vs Lockheed

Charyoble vs Raven

Amagato vs the group

Malacai vs Arienne

Gillette vs Arienne

Sydney vs Eleine

Peppin vs Sydney

Weremacht vs the group

Best Ensemble
An entire cast of characters that is excellent in both creation and execution. The cast should consist of characters that are all interesting and unique, and fit together in a way that they strengthen one another. The characters should have interesting relationships between one another and should be played well by those who role-play them.

Back to best group? What the heck? This is a rehash of the other categories. Again with the obvious nomination.

Is this the only awards system available? I would suggest an alternative competition.

I enjoy everyone's posts immensely. I like the strong willed wiriters we have assembled.

Thanx for hangin out and gamin

THANK YOU, Loki, for the response!

You make some very good points. All of management has considered these points and some others, and we have decided that members here don't have the time or interest to participate in the ARPA awards.

While this may be considered unfortunate, since a site is only as good as the people who play at it, I think I can safely speak for everyone at Elmshade when I say that we don't need awards to prove how extraordinary our writers and role-players are.

As long as people have fun playing here, that's what counts.

I appreciate each and every person who takes the time to write and game here. You guys are what D&D is really all about: people who just love the game and creating stories and characters that others can truly relate to and interact with.

Thanks!!
~ Arienne
