(1 recommendation so far) Message 1 of 97 in Discussion
From: MSN NicknameMaIacai_YugStarth  (Original Message)Sent: 6/6/2005 6:14 AM

Malacai YugStarth had exited Quarry Cove quickly and efficiently, speaking not to his apprentice that followed closely behind. The man stood at six feet tall, and was dressed in a long cloak of darker cloth, along with a cape and simple tunic and leggings underneath.  They were all of a blue-black color, deep and simple.  Strapped over his back was a very thin, very long sheath.  It was nearly 7 feet in length, but extremely thin.     His hair was longer and black in color; or perhaps so dark brown it appeared black.  His eyes glowed a soft, strange blue hue.  His demeanor remained unchanged: grim and serious.

When they were a far distance from Quarry Cove, Malacai then turned to his apprentice for the first time since they left.  He brought up his right hand, and with a swift sweeping motion sent a powerful backhand across the 19 year old man's face.  SMACK!  Watching the red disappear from his apprentice's face slowly, Malacai's filled with anger as he spoke.

"How dare you speak that way to those people!  How dare you embarrass me like you did!  You're smarter than that Reyco, THINK before you speak!!  And flirting with that slut of a bar maid!  Is that what you've become?  A loud-mouth pretty boy looking for a good time?!  You're a WARRIOR, Reyco, start acting like it!" he yells quite loudly.

He pauses for a few moments to regain his composure.  He had been holding back his anger since Reyco let his mouth go at the Fort in Quarry Cove.  Now Malacai speaks a little more calmly, but still in a stern manner.

" You have forgotten the ways of the warrior.  You have forgotten the face of your father.  But, I will make you remember.  We are going towards a place I heard of in our brief visit in Norwood, a place called Elmshade.  It is three days ride from Norwood...however....you will take much longer to get there.  You are going to walk there.  Alone.  Whatevere trials you may face, you face them alone.  Many dangers await you on your journey...you face them by yourself.  You best remember the ways of the warrior....or you'll be left lying in a field," he concludes in a dead serious tone.

With that, Malacai begins to remove his cloak and cape respectively.  He turns Reyco around roughly and places them about his shoulders.  Seeing as they are roughly the same height and build, with Reyco a little more in both instances, they fit easily.  Malacai then takes two rings off of each of his ring fingers, and places them in Reyco's hand.  Finally, he removes bracers of very fine construction and places them at Reyco's feet.  He also hands Reyco a half dozen vials of liquid.

Malacai looks up to Reyco's eyes for a moment.  The Master knows this to be a dangerous and perhaps even deadly decision...but the young one must learn his lesson.  Reyco could perhaps see some sort of compassion in his master's aged eyes; it was evident it was a difficult decision.  However, Malacai was presenting his most prized possessions to his apprentice in order to protect Reyco.  This would be both obvious and enlightening to the  young apprentice.

" It is to the southeast. Good luck," are his only words to the young one.

With that, the Master activates his boots of flight and takes off into the sky, away from the young one until he is out of sight.

((Okay, Reyco, thanks for posting and sending me rolls. We'll post for you and hope that Malacai is able to post tonight, too.))

Reyco's strategy was a good one, and he used his blade to fullest advantage, swinging it to his right and slicing into the first zombie as intended. ((Attack roll: 17 - hit! Damage roll: 14 - ow!)) The zombie wasn't cut in half, as the warrior wanted, but it had been slashed from groin to chest, and looked as if it wouldn't take many more hits before dying...again. The younger blademaster pivoted and struck with his sword against the zombie behind him. ((Attack roll: 21 - hit! Damage roll: 14 - ow again!)) Once more, his techniques proved devastating to the undead he attacked, his sword gashing a wicked injury across the zombie's upper torso. Without pausing to see how his victims reacted, Reyco spun and danced behind Malacai, who was busy with the Jujus, and tried to skewer two more of the filthy, unholy creatures. ((Attack roll: 24 - hit! But you only hit one of them. :P Damage: 13 - yep, that hurt it!)) Reyco only managed to stab through one of the few zombies left, but his sword ripped a huge hole in the zombie's stomach, and it pushed forward along the blade, ignoring the damage that such a move would do to it...it wanted the fighter who had impaled it, and reached toward Reyco, trying to get to him as its slick, ripe intestines spilled down the surface of the sword...

Indeed, the other regular zombies were having trouble keeping up with Reyco's speedy movements, but they still tried to attack him when they got within striking range. ((The two you hit earlier get a back attack, and the one currently on your blade will also attack you, so three attacks in all - attack rolls: 5, nat. 20! and 13 - only one hit! Damage roll: 8 - owie! Reyco HP = 21 - body part hit = 5 - chest/back)) The second zombie which Reyco had damaged struck at his back as he spun to leave the area, raking ragged claws across the fighter's upper back, leaving another ugly wound for the young man to contend with....

(( OOC: My computer's internet is down so I'm posting from a different computer.  I want to try something crazy...to decapitate two zombies on each attack.  I'm willing to suffer the -16 per roll for this insane attack, in hopes of ending this faster.  *Prays to the dice gods* ))

Malacai faced off against the Juju's, and began to get desperate in order to end this fight.  He levitated ever so slightly off the ground, bring his massive sword back and using huge, long horizontol sweeps in hopes of cutting off two head's per sweet attack.

((*laughs* Malacai, you crack me up, man! I shoulda known you would try some crazy-ass stunt like this! :P Okay, let's see how it goes...))

Desperate to end the battle, the older warrior attempted some crazy attacks against the smarter, faster zombies of the group. Swinging his over-sized blade with tremendous force behind it, he was astounded when his first attack(s) completely missed the two Jujus for which he had been aiming. ((Attack roll #1 - 0, and 4 - um...nope, sorry...you *did* say you'd accept the negatives for the called shots. ;) )) Apparently, they had figured out what he was trying to do and one had ducked while the other one jumped back, out of range. Hardly slowing, Malacai's second attack was much more successful and he gave a savage grin as his magical sword neatly lopped off two zombie heads almost simultaneously! ((Attack roll #2 - 19 and 15 - both hit!)) The two heads hit the ground with sickening thuds and rolled away into the darkness as the headless bodies oozed blackish blood and then fell noiselessly to the earth...

The two Jujus he had attacked sprang back at him, smart enough to be wary of his deadly blade, but still determined to take him down. ((Juju attack rolls: 18 and 6 - one hit! Damage roll: 10...Malacai HP = 36)) The one who had jumped away missed Malacai, but the one who had ducked managed to rake claws across his mid-section, opening another burning wound on the man's body...

((DM correction to last post for Reyco...last attack by Reyco vs. zombies was a Nat. 20, so...zombie body part hit roll: 2 - left arm. BUT he takes full damage of 15, instead of 13...so he has even fewer HP now. He's still standing, but has less HP. Alright - you guys are almost there! You know the drill. Jujus next Init = 7))

His master dropped half of the remaining jujus, and Reyco smiled.  They were going to get out of this one after all.  He took aim at the injured zombie he had just attacks and brought a sword across its chest before once again spinning to the other side where the first two he attacked last time were still barely standing.  He tried once again to stab through two zombies at once, the ripping the sword upward to rip holes in their rotting flesh.  If he managed to finish off both of these with this attack, he would go after the next closest non-juju.  If not however, he would attack them once again.

Malacai completely missed on his first attempt in decapitating the first two Juju's, but made a good rebound and neatly sliced off the undead heads of the next two.  Determined to drop these nasty, smart zombies, Malacai lashes out with an attack on each of them in a symmetrical diagnol slashing pattern.

Both fighters were determined to see this fight done and escape with their lives. They fought with the tenacity and ferocity their training had instilled in them, and the zombies were no match for their combined force!

Reyco furiously hacked at those zombies around him, hoping to drop at least three more of them. ((Attack rolls: 23, 7, 21 - all hit! Boo-ya! Damage rolls: 13, 11, 13)) He sliced at the undead before him, slashing through its chest and effectively cutting it in half! The top of the rotting body separated from the bottom and slid forward with a disgusting 'plop' to the ground. The young man didn't even wait for it to hit before spinning and once more attacking the two he had injured just minutes before. He wanted to stab through both of them at once, but his sword's length wasn't long enough to reach them both in one shot, so he sliced at them individually. The first one was ripped in two from a vertical cut, starting at its groin, and both sides of it fell away in a messy splash of rotten guts and internal organs. The second one Reyco attacked was also ginsu-ed by the warrior's precision cut, getting chopped in half from the chest through its decayed face...the pieces split and fell to each side before it stopped walking, creating a night-marish, walking accordian of flesh. Then it, too, dropped to the blood-spattered earth...and still, Reyco moved to fight...

Malacai was in his 'zone'...killing was his business, and business was quite good at the moment! He turned his attention to the remaining two Jujus, using his massive blade to try and slice them in half, as he had seen Reyco do from the corner of his eye. ((Attack rolls: 17 and 22 - both hit! Damage rolls: 19 and 20! Ouch! But...)) His sword slid through the rotten, grey flesh of the Jujus with ease, and he managed to cut both of them very deeply, but the blade didn't complete the cut in either of them. They were surely mortally wounded, but then...when dealing with undead, mortality didn't matter much. Malacai's diagonal slashes had almost killed the two Jujus, but they still stood and retained enough mobility to attack back!

Those two Jujus had seen what the two fighters had done to their ranks, and they could have chosen to run away, but they were both smart enough to deduce that they would have been overtaken by either Reyco and/or Malacai, so they figured that they might as well try to kill the two humans while they had the chance. ((Juju attack rolls: 11 and 18 - oooo both hit! Damage rolls: 7 + 6 = 13 total...Malacai HP = 23 - Dude, that damage could have been soooo much worse!)) And attack they did, using the last of their strength to try and kill the insane blademaster once and for all! They both landed talons which ripped through Malacai's flesh, one tearing away a chunk of his arm and the other rending his left leg. Fresh, red blood mixed with the black bile coating everything around them, and still the battle raged on...

Only two of the remaining regular zombies were within striking range of Reyco, who had moved towards them as soon as he had dismembered the others. Both corpses swung dirt-caked hands at him, trying to grab hold of the warm flesh they sensed before them. ((Attack rolls: 6 and 3 - *laughs* nope, they missed!)) Unfortunately for the zombies, Reyco's agility and skill made him almost impossible to hit, and their claws met only air...

After Reyco slashed the third zombie to pieces, he moves after the ones left.  Moving swiftly, the bracers of haste helping him, he ran at them.  The things even lined up for him!  As he ran, he brought his sword back, ready to strike.  As the undead readied to defend themselves, Reyco ran right by them!  As he did so, he brought the sword forward, trying to hit all 4 with one shot.  The two that managed to swipe at him missed completely.  The young blademaster quickly turned and once again brought to mighty horizontal slashes across the group, trying to hit more than 1 at a time.

Malacai's efforts were...rewarded, in a sense.  He had done serious damage to the Juju's and watched them almost die..again...but not completely.  Angered at what he considered a failure, the elder Blademaster watched for a moment to see Reyco making him proud, dispatching many of the regular zombies.  Using his apprentice as inspiration for the moment, Malacai steps back and tries to use a long diagnol sweep to catch both Juju's in a single shot and finally take them down.  If he succeeds in this attack, he will look to decapitate the regular zombie standing in front of him (that perhaps Reyco damaged).  If he fails to fall both Juju's with one attack, he will look to repeat that slash in its opposite and finally slay the intelligent zombies.

((posting from my grandparents' computer - not sure when I will find another chance. Sorry I didn't get to this on Thursday.))

Reyco ran and used his sword to brutal effect, trying to slash at the regular undead as he ran past them. ((Attack rolls: 11, 12, 9 - all hit! Damage rolls: 12, 11, 14 - great thinking, Reyco!)) His technique was impressive, and having taken a few cues from his master, the young man's blade plowed through three of the zombies, cutting them in half!! The remaining unholy minion turned its attention to him, but was also close to Reyco's master...a very bad place to be at the moment...

Malacai's fury is what saved him ((you are sooo lucky you got a better init!)) and he used a tremendously powerful diagonal cutting technique to hack through the two Jujus near him. ((Attack rolls vs. Jujus: 16, 22 - both hit!! Damage: 16 - enough to kill them both! Woo Hoo! Good job!)) He then swung around to see that Reyco had dispatched all but one, lone walking dead...so Malacai took the opportunity to finish the job and finally end the fight. ((Attack roll vs. Reg. zombie: 20! You hit it,of course. Damage: 12 - 2 more than you needed to kill it!)) The force of the killing blow left the zombie standing upright, for it was too fast for the stupid creature to comprehend the magical blade's slice. But then its head rolled forward as its body stayed in place...and then it fell to its knees, finally collapsing onto the ground.

The long battle against the creatures had finally come to an end, and both fighters felt exhausted. Both Malacai and his apprentice were covered in gore and the stench of the dead bodies surrounded them, soaking into their clothes and senses like a putrid miasma. It would still be a few hours until dawn, but the aches and pains of the fight hit home and they both knew that a bath and good night's sleep would make them feel much better...

((Alright. Like I said, I dunno when I will get another chance to get back to a computer - it may be I can find one when I get to the island, but it may not be until I get back. That should give you guys ample time to decide what you wanna do next - search? loot? Get to the village? Talk about it and e-mail me and let me know what you want to do before you post. Sorry again I didn't get to this sooner. Time got away from me and I had to leave. But...GOOD JOB! You guys will get some sweet XP from this!! That will have to wait until I get back home, though - most of my notes and material is there. Thanks for gaming with me and I'll talk to you both in the not too distant future!!))

Breathing heavily, Reyco brought his sword down as the head of the zombie he had been about to attack rolled off of its shoulders and the body fell with a final thump.  As it did so, he saw his master standing on the other side of the corpse with his glowing blade.  Malacai and his blade were covered in gore to the point of dripping.  Reyco looked down at himself to find himself in the same state.  He looked back up to Malacai with a serious look on his face, "Well master, that could have been worse."

Before Malacai could respond, Reyco started searched the corpses for a dry piece of clothing and tore it off once he found it.  He would use the cloth to wipe his blade totally clean then throw to the side before sheathing his weapon on his back.

If Malacai had nothing to say to him, Reyco would start searching the corpses thoroughly for trinkets or things to sell or use.  He would look for jewels, jewelry, weapons, armor, and anything else that wasn't just the tattered cloths on the fallen minions' backs.  He would even examine those rags for some hint of abnormality or hints of magic.

With the battle finally over and his apprentice still alive, Malacai finally breathes a long, heavy sigh of relief.  His eyes scan quickly around the battlefield, looking for any other possible enemies.  He knew it would not be long before more monstrosities were attracted to this place of death.  The smell of the blood, gore, and rotting bodies was a dead giveaway out int he open like this.  Malacai turns to his apprentice.

"You fought well, Reyco.  I'm proud to be able to call you my apprentice.  Well done," he says, in an extremely rare compliment given by the master.

That said, Malacai joins Reyco in thoroughly searching the bodies for anything that might prove of use.  He also makes sure to go back and check the bodies of the Wight's they had destroyed earlier.  When everything (anything) has been collected and stored, Malacai thinks on what to do next.

"I think we should head to the village as soon as possible.  Prepare to be air-borne...I'm going to carry you and fly us there.  We cannot afford another battle like that...," he says lightly.

Malacai will also retrieve his other items from Reyco, and place them on his person once more.  Once everything is all settled and Reyco is ready, Malacai will take the large man in his arms, and lift into the sky.  Finding sight of the village, he will speed off towards it.

(( OOC: Thanks for DMing that.  It was a lot of fun.  Where do we go in the village?  Let us know I guess.  Thanks!!))

Malacai and his apprentice were weary and anxious to find rest and refreshment (a good bath wouldn't hurt, either) but wanted to see if the zombies' corpses or those of the wights held anything of interest. Malacai's searching revealed two things which caught his eyes: on the severed arm of one of the leathery-skinned zombies which had been so hard to re-kill, he noticed a silvery-black ring adorning one of its fingers. It had small, etched runes inside the circumference. On the body of one of the wights, he discovered a small, black leather pouch. It jingled when he picked it up.

Reyco's searching also proved fruitful. He also discovered treasure on one of the Juju zombies. Around the neck of one of the downed, grey-skinned undead, he noticed a thin, mithril chain. At the end of it was a black stone beetle, in the shape of a scarab about 2 inches in diameter. His search took him back inside the tunnel where the last wight had been dispatched, and this time, he located the metallic glint which had caught his eye, earlier in the fight. Half-buried beneath rubble and ancient cobwebs, Reyco discovered a scabbard with a sword sheathed inside it. There was very little light to examine it by, but Malacai's magical blade had shed enough for him to see it.

The two grabbed what they found to examine later in safer surroundings, and Malacai replaced his belongings on his person. He then flew the two of them towards the village, where they could see the smoke coming from the chimney of the local Inn/Tavern...

((I'm home, and now you get the XP you worked so hard for. *Smile* First of all, Reyco, give yourself a level up. You did excellently role-playing your character and posting your actions! Malacai, you're not quite at another level yet, but give yourself half the XP needed to advance - you also did great (of course, I expected nothing less! ;) )Now, for the kills XP:

Malacai, you killed 11 Regular zombies - at 65 XP each, that's 65 x 11 = 715. You killed 5 Juju zombies at 975 XP each, that's 975 x 5 =  4875. You also killed 3 Wights at 1400 XP each, that's 1400 x 3 = 4200. Total Kill XP = 9790. Not bad!

Reyco, you killed 14 Regular zombies - at 65 XP each, that's 65 x 14 = 910. You also killed the Ochre jelly at 270 XP. Total Kill XP = 1180. Add that to your new level.

Once again, GOOD JOB! :) You guys both played well and it was a pleasure to DM for you. Even though it took awhile, I hope you had fun. I would recommend going to the Inn to examine your treasures (and take a bath! lol - both of you need one!). Once you get there and have a room/decide to look at the treasure you found, let me know. For the magical stuff, you'll need to talk to a mage.))

Malacai gathered the treasures and coinage that he found, placing them securely on his person.  The Blademaster retracted his magical blade into its pommel, placing it in the "sheath" on his back.  Going to his apprentice, re-donning his magical clothing, and taking one more look around, Malacai grabbed Reyco and took off into the sky.

Soaring through the air, the warrior searches for signs of the nearby village.  He quickly spots what he thinks is rising smoke from a building, and heads towards it.  Malacai lands in front of the door to the local tavern, letting Reyco down and stepping inside.

The barkeep can see that both warriors are filthy and covered in guts, gore, blood, and other atrocities.  Many cuts and bruises adorn their two bodies as well, making them a menacing form.

" One room, the best you have,  two baths, washed clothes, and some hot food," Malacai states simply.  He reaches into the recently acquired black bag, flashing some platinum if the tender needs to see coinage.

Assuming it is available, Malacai will bathe, eat, then head up to sleep once Reyco is finished with his duties.  Once inside the room, Malacai strips down to his drawers and makes whatever arrangements are necessary to have his clothes washed VERY CAREFULLY.  He makes sure to tip heavily for the service so that care is taken.

"You fought well today Reyco...that sword you found.  It's something special.  The edge...it's even sharper than my sword.  We'll need to see a mage tomorrow...surely one of those towers contains some kind of mage. They can tell us more about what we found.  But I think you may have found a great weapon.  Learn to use it wisely.  Good night," he says, climbing into whatever bedding he has for a lengthy slumber.

Reyco puts the necklace in his backpack when he finds it, not wanting to wear it in case it was filled with some vile magic.  Carefully, he re-enters the tunnel to see if he can find the glint he saw earlier and finds the sword.  Not being able to tell much about it, he slides the sheath through his belt (if the sword is short enough, if not he will carry it).

Once outside, he let Malacai take him up as they had many times before.  Once on the ground, he donned his cloak and lifted the hood up.  Within, he keeps his mouth shut until spoken to. When offered food or bath he thanks the server curtly and accepts them.  If someone comes to take Malacai's cloths, he will make sure his are included.

"Thank you Master." He responds when Malacai compliments his fighting, and nods when he speaks of having their plunder examined by a mage.  "Good night Master." He responds when Malacai bids him goodnight.

When morning comes, Reyco will go about retrieving their cloths if they have been washed and quietly inquiring about a mage (possibly to the inn keeper, serving wench, or some folk that might be nearby the inn or in the common room during the early morning)  who might be able to tell them more about some strange items.  If possible, he would wake early to do this and have the cloths and information ready for Malacai when he awoke.
