Hello everybody,
I'm new on this site. I've had endo for close to 15 years. At first, my mom thought I was faking so that I wouldn't have to go to school and I wasn't properly diagnosed until the age of 26 (I'm 30 now).
As time went by, the pain got so severe that I was up to 30 advils a days, barely to get by, for 3 weeks every month. I ended up in the hospital more than once to get morphine-based shots. I've had Lupron shots for a year... put on 20 pounds, lost my boobs, couldn't sleep... But the pain was gone. 3 months after I stopped, it was back, slowly increasing.
So doctors started talking about hysterectomy again...
And then something happened that truly changed my life.
I'd gotten on a diet to lose the extra pounds I'd put on with the Lupron and it was a no sugar diet. Now, I've always looooved sugar. I was a sugar/chocolate/ice cream junkie...and of course, when I was really in pain, nothing could soothe me better than a bag of gummie bears. So anyway, I got on that diet. It was a balanced diet, but no sugar. For five days, I thought I was going to die. I was sweathing, I was nauseated, I was tired, I had muscle cramps. I was just weaning myself from sugar.
A few days later, I got my period... and the pain was more than bearable.
Some natural doctors have argued that sugar worsens menstrual pain.
I resumed eating sugar and the pain was back. I stopped again, it was gone. i tried that several times over a period of 3 months to make sure... and it worked every time!!!
So I quit eating sugar altogether. What I mean by sugar is saccharose: cane and beet sugar. I eat plenty of fruit and when I feel like a cookie, I get fructose-based (fructose is the natural sugar found in fruit) or a honey based cookies at a health food store.
I quit eating sugar 2 years ago. Not only have I lost 20 pounds (without changing anything else), but my life has completely changed. I went from 3 weeks of unbearable pain to 3 days of perfectly manageable pain every month.
I also take onagre oil, konwn in Europe for its action against menstrual cramps.
The no sugar (saccharose) diet is demanding: there sugar in everything! Ketchup, turkey slices, bread... it's a drag and I spend my days reading labels... and it's really a NO Sugar (meaning not even a little bit). It's a drag but it's worth it! Try it for a week or a month. It's hard at first, but now I don't even think about it anymore.
I know it's changed my life. It's normal now.
So I just wanted to share that with you girls. I wish someone had told me sooner. It's not a fluke. It worked for me. I don't know if it's something that works for everyone, but in my case, it's great.
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer.
Good luck to all of you
