On the 11th Day of the 11th Month on the 11th hour in 1918 is when the First World War ended. so are you ready to give up 2 mins of your time to remember those who fought, died, survived back then and other wars since? 11.11.11 Here in the UK, and I am not sure if you do the same there, but we wear poppies, which are provided by the British Legion throughout the whole country. It's called the Poppy Appeal. The reason, is because of the poem that was written by a Canadian. And all because the poppy was the only flower that grew on the battlefield. The Poem: In Flanders' FieldsJohn McCrae, 1915 In Flanders' fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high, If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders' Fields. |

Rememberance Day and Sunday is always special to me as I lost family members in both World Wars and though I didn't know them, I feel very teary and it makes me rather angry when people are so ignorant of it and continue. It's just 2 mins of their time.
Yea I watched the whole service, 112, 110, 108 are the three remaining veteran's of the Great War. And yea I had tears to my eyes too.
Bless ya dad. I'm sure he would've been very proud of you!
Sending you massive hugs. |
