Hopefully you will find this helpful...I use all of these on my own puter and have found them very helpful...with the zone alarm ..do not check off all the programs as allow...this defeats the purpose of the program..it only takes a couple seconds to click on allow for the program to go through..I also have mine set so that it engages an internet lock after 20 mins of sitting idle...it's as easy as right clicking on the icon to engage it again...hope you find something helpful in all of this...take care..love and hugs..Angel

Key Benefits of ZoneAlarm
Firewall Protection

Easy-to-use firewall blocks hackers and other unknown threats.

  • Intrusion Blocking systematically identifies hackers and blocks access attempts.
  • Stealth Mode automatically makes your computer invisible to anyone on the Internet.
  • System Requirements:
Windows 98SE/ME/2000 Pro/XP, 233 MHz Pentium or higher, 8MB of available hard disk space, Internet access. Minimum system RAM: 48MB (98SE/ME), 64MB (2000 Pro), 128MB (XP).
SpywareBlaster: (Free)
  • Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
  • Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
  • Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.

    Spybot search & destroy: (Free)

  • Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm in trying to see if something snooped into your computer, too :)

  • AVG Anti virus: (Free)

    http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Download, install and use AVG Free Edition and get:

    • AVG Resident Protection
    • AVG e-mail Scanner
    • AVG On-Demand Scanner
    • Basic Scheduled Tests
    • Free Virus Database Updates
    • Automatic Update feature
    • Easy-To-Use Interface
    • Automatic Healing of infected files
    • AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files

Free online virus scan: with up to date scanning

    Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to let you know, that ZoneAlarm is a very good program, BUT, and this is very important, I learned this from past experiences. There is an option in ZoneAlarm to start when your computer starts, ok now heres the thing, if you must for any reason UNinstall Zonealarm, before uninstalling you MUST uncheck that option, if you dont, you will no longer have internet access, and will have to FORMAT your whole computer. It messes up the whole computer and there is no way of fixing it unless you erase everything off your computer. Other than that zonealarm is great!!
    Take care
    Sherrie

    Thanks Angel Girl!

I don't know if I am stubborn or stupid or both but I paid for a subscription to Symantec and by golly I want my moneys worth!  But I can't get the stupid thing to load all the way so while it will download the updates, it will not install them!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  I don't want to pay for the tech help either!  If you have a subscription you should be able to have them walk you through!
    I am frustrated
Thanks for letting me vent as usual!  LOL
