The chakras are wheels of light that spin in the human aura at various positions along the physical body. The chakras take in energy from the environment and from the Divine and filter it into your mental, emotional, and physical energy bodies. (See articles on Auras for more info).
Each chakra is responsible for filtering energy in a different way that facilitates growth, well-being, and stability. The chart below contains an overview of chakras, the colors that are associated with each in meditation, and their basic functions.
7th Chakra Crown
| The seventh chakra, or crown is a funnel of light that opens up and outward at the top of the head. It connects us with our soul and higher spiritual truth.
The seventh chakra is associated with the pineal gland and upper brain.
|
6th Chakra Third-Eye
| The sixth chakra, or third-eye is a funnel of light that opens outward from the center of the forehead, above the eyebrows. The third eye gives us psychic or intuitive vision and allows us to see the goodness and purpose in all situations.
The sixth chakra is associated with the pituitary gland, the lower brain, ears, nose, and nervous system..
|
5th Chakra Throat
| The fifth chakra, or throat is a funnel of light that opens outward from the throat.
The throat chakra gives us the ability to speak our truth and express our authentic selves out in the world via our work, hobbies, or interests.
The fifth chakra is associated with the thyroid gland, throat, the lungs, and vocal cords.
|
4th Chakra Heart
| The fourth chakra, or heart is a funnel of light that opens outward from the heart. The heart chakra gives us the ability to love ourselves and love others. An open heart can give and receive love.
The heart chakra is associated with the thymus, heart, blood, and circulatory system.
|
3rd Chakra Solar Plexus
| The third chakra, or solar plexus is a funnel of light that opens outward from an area just above the navel. The solar plexus chakra gives us a sense of personal power and self-esteem.
This is why we cross our hands in front of our stomach when another is being angry...we want to protect the center of our self-worth, power, and self-esteem!
The third chakra is associated with the pancreas, stomach, liver, gallbladder, & digestive system.
|
2nd Chakra Sacral
| The second chakra, or sacral chakra is a funnel of light that opens outward from the lower abdomen. The second chakra dictates how we relate to power symbols...sex, money, and control.
If we are balanced in the second chakra we can enjoy these things without letting them control us. A closed fifth chakra and an active second chakra often lead to addictive behaviors.
The second chakra is associated with the reproductive organs.
|
1st Chakra Root
| The first chakra, or root is a funnel of light that opens downward from the tailbone, or base of the spine. The root chakra grounds us (like a lightning rod) so emotionally and spiritually charged energies can run through us safely and into the ground. If you are an empathic person visualize this chakra spinning frequently because you need to make sure that the emotions you pick up from others run safely out of your system.
The root chakra is associated with the adrenal glands and the immune system, kidneys, and spinal column.
