Frankie, I took several medications for years from the onset of puberty. I was like your son - I could NOT sleep without the medication. Even since my surgeries and the relative control of my seizures, I still have a LOT of problems in sleeping. Many nights it will be more than 2 hrs before I can doze off - then there's problems now in STAYING asleep. Three hours, four hours and I wake up.

I think part of it had to do, and still does, with the ADHD. I've had that marching hand in hand with my seizures all my life - back then, they called it hyperactivity and gave us Ritalin. (Note - the Ritalin stopped my seizures. When they stopped the Ritalin, my seizures escalated until I had my first full convulsion and was finally diagnosed.) I still multi-task, but have problems in focusing on one thing to the exculsion of all others. Again, that's part of ADHD.

The clonopin should act in him similarly to my phenobarbitol. It helped to alleviate my hyperactivity, but at the same time increased my deep sleep cycle. I had to have 10 hrs of sleep or I couldn't think. This was thruout puberty.

I wish you the best of luck.
Milinda

I have also experience alot of trouble getting to sleep. Most of my seizures happen during sleep and that causes anxiety. I take 1 mg of klonopin at night. that helps me to relax and also helps with any twitching my legs may experience. Lori
