Hi everyone. I just had a terrible few nights and had to go to the ER for hydration. I had what I thought was that superbug, which hits the intestines. After a few days of vomiting and the runs I knew I wansnt keeping down any of the Dilantin and was very week. It turned out after a CAT scan I had a kidney/bladder infection.  I got a few bags of saline solution, zofran for the nausea and my dilantin and a strong antiobiotic through the IV as well. I slept the last few days and go back to the doc tomorrow. Needless to say I feel alot better.

Last summer was my first summer dealing with the seizures. Im not sure why but I had a very difficult time staying dehydrated.  along with my meds I have a check off  reminder to increase my fluid intake so I dont have a rebound seizure if I get sick. This may be second nature to you guys but I thought Id mention it to save anyone I can a visit to the ER. Stay well everyone!  Lori

Hi Loi,  I hope you are feeling better. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, it's the best way I know to stay hydrated. I also drink at least 3 cans of diet pepsi a day but that doesnt count. lol. You stated in your post that last summer was the first summer dealing with your seizures. Did you just start having seizures within the last year ?  I too was on dilantin . I was on it for 30 yrs. it really took a toll on my body. bones, gums, skin, etc etc,,,,,.  It worked well for me for a very long time , up until a couple of years ago. Im on lamictal now. 400mg a day. How much dilantin are you taking a day ?       I hope that you stay well, and be sure to drink alot of water, it really does help.

Anyone who has bad experience with keeping a pill down but still needs to take the medication you should have been given also a Rx for a pill called "Caraphate". I once was put on Depakote and my stomach did not accept the Depakote well. So then I had to take Caraphate to coat my stomach. This was many many years ago before the big surgery. So just a little tip for you for later reference. Sorry to hear this happened to you Lori.
