Conservative writer Kathleen Parker isn't going to have any friends left soon:

Obama's example could have society-altering effects, especially in the African American community. By his example, he telegraphs the following messages: Being smart is good; education is good; being a good father is essential. Being an egghead is cool.

Conservatives insist, correctly, that culture matters. Many liberals think so, too, by the way. Why, some liberals even stay married their entire lives to the same person and raise children to do the same.

You want Ward Cleaver? Meet Barack Obama. Michelle is June Cleaver with a law degree. Family values don't get more traditional than those of the Obamas, who ooze marital bliss and whose adorable daughters make feminist cynics want to bake cookies and learn to smock.

Though we may perish of boredom, the Obamas may do more to elevate the American family than all the pro-marriage initiatives conceived by those who claim to speak for the deity.

"I don't want my girls punished with a baby."

What's wrong with that statement? In the speech he gave he said he wanted to give them good information to avoid being punished for a mistake. A baby as a teen is a punishment, at least it will be for my daughter.

I told her straight up at the age of twelve that if she has a baby, she will be a mother. She will feed, bath, and care for it every hour she's not in school or doing homework. There will be no dances, movies, or cruising with friends whenever she wants. She will have to get a baby sitter just like mom and dad did when she was a baby and still do for her and her brother. She's also going to have to pay that babysitter.

During the summer, she will get a job. She will give me her paycheck, and it will go towards raising her child.

There won't be any of this raising it as my brother or sister crap that grandparents do. If she thinks she's responsible enough when it comes to sex, she'll have a whole new set responsibilities that she will deal with if she doesn't use her brain and becomes pregnant. I'll love her til the day I die and never turn her away, but she will be a responsible person before she leaves my home if she gets pregnant.

She's been given good information on how to avoid getting pregnant as I believe every child should.

I want my daughter to have a choice. Not to have her medical decisions mandated by the government. The "right" is so critical of government infringing on their gun rights but have no problem with the government coming between a woman and her doctor. I guess this shows that guns are more important than people.

Aw, Ray. You have to have guns to come between the doctor and the woman. The doctor just might need shooting.

As an adult, I believe they should have a choice. As a teen, I don't know. Is a fourteen year old girl mature enough to make a choice she won't regret?

The first part of post 5 was sarcasm for those of you who don't know.

A 14 year old should  not be having sex.  If you think its ok, then give them some birthcontrol, not just a pill, use the pill and a condom, make sure they are protected so another unwanted baby is not killed.

I believe I said all of that. Point is if they want to they will. You can't stop them. That's why you give them good information to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Yep, she should have aborted the baby, would have given the libs a lot less to bash her mom about.

No, she should have the CHOICE to do what SHE wants.......not mandated by the government like her mom wants.

Ray, the word "choice" is what is bothersome. That would require making decisions. How much easier is it to have someone make the decisions via legislation?
