WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. economy entered a recession in December 2007, a committee of economists at the private National Bureau of Economic Research said Monday. The economy reached a peak in December and has been declining since, according to the business cycle dating committee of the NBER. The committee does not judge a recession as two consecutive quarterly declines in gross domestic product; rather, it looks at four key monthly economic indicators, including employment, industrial output and sales. Employment peaked in December

You have already established your opinion of me without even knowing me, and do wonder why, since I just posted what was stated by others, and added a line... Are you some kind of a judge?
I have no problems and I do anything I want and I travel around all over and enjoy myself at all times, even when a whole lot of bad things are happening, I am very jovial...

This whole economy really gets to me, I guess it gets under my skin.  If the U.S. was so broke then people wouldn't be spending as much money as they do today.  I know that some people have held back from it, but I heard that Christmas sales went up about 3% because of the shoppers on Black Friday.
What is this Bailout for?  So the U.S. can keep Wall Street above water?  That's really hard to understand, heck maybe it's only people with wads of money at their hands.  I know some people keep saying there's a Bailout for the Big 3, but isn't that a loan?  I would gladly get rid of those CEOs and tell all the executives they're fired.  Maybe the men that put the cars together know more about the company they work for than any of those big shots.

I sure do agree with you, since all of these Institutions held Billions for any kind of an Emergency, but I guess they did not save enough...
In regards to the CEO's and the top dogs there, they should all be fired and put in prison awaiting a trial...

WWII I  don't know if you remember or not but it has probably been 2 years or so ago, back sometime in late '06 I think we started discussing this <an another board> talking about the coming depression/recession, I know it was not I, and I don't think it was you that started the thread but we had a heck of a run with the depression thread...it actualy branched off onto 2, the original on the factual finance aspect, and then the spin off  of threads of what to do and how to prepare for a recession/depression......Anyway my point is that many boo hooed if not down right laughed at us and our doomsday "whining"....the funny part is much of what many and especialy you predicted or imagined has and is coming to pass.
I remember you specificaly started watching the housing market and made predictions of exactly what has happened.  As well as wall street and the markets and there you also made some pretty good close predictions.
I didn't understand a lot of it then and still don't but I have been educated a bit more, at least enough to know I had to make and stick to a budget for this holiday season as my investment income is not near what it was last year.....If some had only listened to you they may have saved themself some stress and money.
And many more might want to consider some of our Recession Tips too, because as hard as he may try to, I don't think Obama and/or his new economics team will be able to save many from  job loss, home loss, income loss and possibly even facing hunger.
I don't think we have seen the worse yet.

I remember it all very clearly, and your right since i was talking about this in early 2006, even thou I knew this was going to be a huge issue back in 2003... Do you remember the folks calling me Doom and Gloom, back then?  You sure mentioned it in your post...
I am so glad to hear someone like you for bringing this up, since I never received many posts in regards to those OP's since no one really believed any of it, but I kept trying to get through... What I was really looking for TCR, was to have folks start thinking and talking about this, then we could go back in forth and then I can also learn, but that never happened...
We had about 3 posters, that did everything they could trying to redirect the OP in another direction, by using huge pictures that had nothing to do with the OP... I really believe that those folks were in denial and don't want to hear it...
Want to talk more about this and will post more later... Thanks ever so much for mentioning this, since it makes me feel that I maybe somewhat worthwhile as a poster... Thanks again TreeCityRose...

WWII I have always read and enjoy your post, but the sad fact is much of what you post about the economy is too far over this girls country hick  head, for me to even be able to make an intelligent response, and those things I do understand I most times agreed with and there was little to say except that you are right.
While it didn't generate much posting from me, it did make me become more aware of my money and investments and become more involved, which lead to my readjusting some things and saved me a few thousand dollars. And my children/family will probably have a better x-mas than some and a better future as well because of it, and for that we thank you.
Keep posting and I will try to respond as much and as best as I can.

I'm sure that our great-grandparents raised our grandparents a lot better than they were raised.  Our grandparents raised our Mother's and Father's better than they were raised.  Our parents raised us with very high values and more money than they were raised with.  We did the same thing for our Children.  But will they be able to do the same for their Children, with this bad economy?  Maybe I'm just thinking odd, because I don't want this government to burden my Children and grandchildren with the problems that they caused by not being able to balance the books.  I, also, keep thinking about the generation after them, etc.  Does anyone think that America will do anything to protect the middle-class from any economy problem, if they get worse?  I also wonder about the poor people of this country and the people that seem to be stuck in poverty all their lives, why doesn't the goverment help them?  I keep thinking that they can help them, but the rich people just don't seem to care about others.

I can't posssibly expect folks to know what I know, since I have been around the horn a few times... I just want you to know that I am not an expert in any area of financial matters... I do read 13 Magizines a month with most of them dealing with financing or stock, and read then cover to cover... My area of expertise is in computers, and have 54 years of all around experience...
As you know, I also spend a lot of time travelling and I can see how different areas has somehwat different problems, and I pay attention to anything that helps me to better understand the total economy, and why is it slowly tanking...
Keep on posting and asking questions, since it also helps me to keep learning... I am just glad that you are so honest, and if I say anything that helps the folks here, then that is a good thing...
