Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is set to become the next chairman of the Democratic Party. Two Democratic officials said Sunday that President-elect Barack Obama has chosen the governor to take over the Democratic National Committee.
The officials spoke to The Associated Press on a condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been officially announced.
Kaine plans to work at the party part-time until 2010, when his term as governor is up and he can take over the DNC full-time.
Current DNC chairman Howard Dean plans to step down Jan. 21, the day after Obama's inauguration.

{Tim Kaine is a good and loyal democrat and delivered his state to Obama in the election. The first Dem to win the state for 44 years. He has been rewarded with the job he wanted. The real story here though is the departure of Howard Dean. Dean did a remarkable job as chairman of the Democratic Party, thinking up, planning and carrying out many of the strategies that proves so successful on Nov.4th. From all reports I have read he worked tirelessly and was a master at getting to problems quickly and dealing with them before they got out of hand. Dean was always a step or two ahead of everyone else and has served his party well.
How despised he was by the right wing. How they loved to poke fun at him over a shriek of pleasure which admittedly may have been the end of his own Presidential dreams. In the long term thought it was the scream that launched a thousand strategies and contributed to the liberals outstanding success and the humiliating defeat of the Conservatives in November. Howard Deans rise to the top job was as important for the ultimate victory of the Democratic party as John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his Veep candidate was the ultimate cause of his miserable failure. Good and bad decisions have always decided man's fate. This past Presidential election campaign is a study in opportunities taken and lost. Howard Dean was the right man for the right job at the right time. Good "karma" perhaps but a good man getting a good job done can work wonders.
Thank you Howard Dean and a job well done.}
