Rediscovered:  Texas Roadhouse

We used to eat at the Texas Roadhouse pretty often, but over the summer, we've gotten away from it.  It's an excellent place, kind of a southwestern steakhouse (little bit redneck, I guess) atmosphere.  But, they have the best baked potatoes I have ever gotten in a restaurant.  They have what they call the "Earlybird Menu", where you can choose two entrees (each comes with two sides) from an abbreviated menu for $13.99 (for both!).  My sister and I always get this since it's an excellent value.  I usually get the 6-oz sirloin and she gets that or the barbecued chicken breast.  Both are very good.

This is a real roadhouse type place, loud country music, lots of farm memorabilia on the walls, Willie Nelson posters, peanuts in the shell (with signs everywhere telling you it's ok to throw the shells on the floor!).  Not too expensive.  Simple dishes.  Excellent service.

If you have one near you and you've never eaten there, try it out.

Recommended dish:  "Roadkill"    (I kid you not about the name)  ...it's a ground sirloin pattie topped with grilled onions and mushrooms, all covered in melted jack cheese - yummy!)

Pache....  My DIL and I are leaving for Missouri around noon today and we decided several days ago that on our way out of town since we pass it anyway, we're going to stop and eat at the Texas Roadhouse.  In last Sunday's paper they had a huge advertisement about this place which caught our attention.  Thanks for giving this info.. Nice to know in advance.

FYI...  I'll propably be off the board again for a few days.  Going home and we have lots to do once we get there so don't know how much time I will have to be online.

Have a good trip, Dee!  Be careful and safe, but have fun!

If you like chicken, The Texas Roadhouse has a chicken breast filet that is prepared like the "Roadkill" above, with the onions/mushrooms/jack cheese that is delicious!

If you want to get the Early Bird special (2 for $13.99), you have to get there before 5:30 PM.

Digby scallops, marinated in fresh lime juice and sauteed a couple of minutes.
Yum.

Ahmad's Persian Cuisine --  fesun Jun...its like Iranian comfort food.  Its like a thick chicken stew in a fantastic pomegranite sauce.  Its to die for.  Another great dish there is Jujeh Koresht which is also chicken marinated in mild lemon yogurt, it is so amazingly tender, and the subtle hint of lemon--though possibly initially sounding strange, fits the chicken perfectly!

Sher i Punjab -- mulligawawny (a soup) kheema paratha (spiced bread with ground lamb!)  Chicken Tikka masala and Chicken tikka Mahkani (Chicken in spiced sauces)

(I'm not much of a red meat eater...can ya tell *s*?
