Belle is an amazing 1 yr old Golden Retriever. From day one, she'd always been calm.
When she was 16 months old, she passed her Canine Good Citizen test with flying colors. The testers couldn't believe she was so young. The next month, we went to the county fair, and earned the 3rd highest score of the whole "open" division of Obedience. At 19 months, she was tested for Therapy Dog (thru TD Inc) She passed that with glowing praise for a wonderful young dog. The following month, we went to a 3 day AKC trial. She placed 2nd all 3 days, earning her CD title in one extended weekend. These achievements are quite impressive for such a young dog.
Belle now loves going to pre-school. She is certified as a R.E.A.D. dog. She is so loving with the 3-4-5 yr old kids. She greets most of them with a kiss on her hand. She amazed me one day when she met a new child. His teacher asked me to do therapy work with him instead of "just" R.E.A.D. work. "John" had recently been shot in the eye by a BB gun and was possibly going to lose his eye, and had already lost his sight in that eye. As John sat down, I told her to "visit" and she immediately nuzzled him in his chest. She seemed to sense that he needed more as she usually just lays her head down and naps while we read. She was alert with him the whole time, and even laid her head in his lap, which she had never done before. I was so shocked to see the natural ability she had. I told the director of the preschool (who also got the READ program started there) and she was quite impressed also. (she has a therapy dog, so she understands their work)
While at home, Belle is quick to curl up with my kids. She also keeps me company in my bed while my husband is traveling. She is rarely very far from me and is often found on the floor under my desk or beside my chair.
Belle is simply the most loving and caring dog I've ever known. She is also one of my best friends.
