My beloved Fritz had passed over the rainbow bridge in April of 2004. I was searching and searching for another mini schnauzer but was having no luck. We still had lil Taz and even he was missing having a buddy around, (although he wouldn't admit it at the time). I knew I wanted another schnauzer but I also missed having a big dog around so I decided to fill the void by volunteering at the humane society which is always full of big dogs who needed some extra loving. My very first Saturday working on my own I was making my way down the kennels, handing out treats and deciding who to go and visit with first when there in #22 (my lucky number) was this little shaggy silver schnauzer who had amazingly been a stray. I couldn't beleive it. I opened the gate and went on in. Quite honestly he was less than impressed with me, but I didn't care. He was the one. I ran up to the front with all of his paperwork...a BIG NO NO.... and said "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS DOG"....well so did 3 people ahead of me so the wait began! I went and sat with some of the other dogs just waiting for the other people to finish their appointments to see if I would be chosen to take this little love bug home. Finally it was my turn, the other three didn't work out amazingly so he was mine as long as he and Taz got along. My daughter brought Taz in and the meeting went off without a hitch. Taz didn't care as long as some one was petting him, and Jax just loved him so home we went. Silly me couldn't stop crying all the way home holding my new little love I couldn't believe my luck. When we got home he ran right in the house, went back to say hi to Frank and then proceeded to jump on the bed and bury himself in my pillows, exactly like Fritz used to do....it was like Fritz' spirit was there telling him it's ok....you're safe now! A year and a half later, he is still the best little dog. Full of kisses and snuggles. I still can't imagine how he ever became a stray!! Well he will never be one again cause he is my little love bug...and here he is in one of his favorite spots sleeping on our legs as we sit in the recliner! |
