I have four Miniature Shnauzers. Monty will be 10 in April he loves to do obedience, when we are out walking he plays with the others for a while then returns to me for  something to do, eg. a retrieve or a sendaway. Pippa is 3 she is sooo playfull greets anyone and every dog. Loves a chase, and encourages her pups to play with her. Then I have Molly and Gilly who are Pip's pups. They will be 1  in April. They were actually born on Monty's Birthday. Molly is black the others are salt and pepper. Molly like her mum is very playfull, she is also the smartest of the pack. The quickest to do anything asked of her. Gilly is rather shy. (I think.) She seems to bark more than the others. I think its a front, she is not aggressive in any way she just tends to bark then run back to me. She doesn't like me touching other people's dogs and tends to bark at them when they come too close to me. But she is very attentive, and extremely cuddly. Thats what makes me think she is shy . They are all different and I love them all  the same.

Hi, My name is Michelle.  I have a beautiful 6 1/2 month old female Miniature Schnauzer whose name is Sophia.  She's been through alot, unfortunately, I bought her at a petstore and after I got her she got really sick.  She survived Distemper - she's my little fighter.

My question is:  How much should a 6 1/2 month miniature schnauzer weigh?  She already weighs 14.5 pounds!!!

I don't care how much she grows - she's part of the family - just curious!!

Thanks.

Hiya Michelle,
I glad that your Sophia has got through her illness. Well done to you.
It's not a set rule the weight of a dog. She's still a baby and growing. There are the ideal height sizes for schnauzers but they don't all come out of the same mould.
The best way to tell if your dog is the correct weight is to place your hands either side of her shoulder blades, then gently move them down her body accross her chest. Your feeling for her ribs, and you should be able to feel the bones. You don't want to be able to see the bones, but you want to be able to feel them without putting too much pressure on the dog.
I have four mini's and my boy is far too tall. When feeding them I try to sick to the recommended amount of food, but Monty always needs more, because he is larger. Are you going to training classes? They are great fun, and mini's are very clever. I've just started agility with one of mine. She loves it and I'm keeping fit.
Nice talking to you.
Jane.
