I know this is supposed to be about "our" dogs and technically Mulder never physically came home with me, but in every other respect he has my heart. In early May of 2006 a young lady had to give up her beloved dog. Her life circumstances changed and her new landlord said NO to a dog..any dog, but especially one who was thought to be part pitbull. She had done everything right. Took him to training. Made sure that he had vet care when needed. Even after he was hit by a car she spent a lot of money to get him the best care possible but she couldn't keep him. When I first saw him he was a goofy looking black dog with little beedy eyes but the manager said you HAVE to take him out - he is so great! Well I did and I was smitten. He would look into my eyes and you could see into his soul. Thanks he said...he wasn't gushy about it but it was there just the same. Kisses from Mulder were an earned privelege and I cherished each and every one of them. Pretty soon I started taking him to events. He loved everyone he met. He was the leader of the play groups. We could use him to help problem dogs learn their manners. One day another guardian angel started coming to the shelter. She saw his potential and said this dog could be a Canine Good Citizen. She is an evaluater so we tried some of the basic tests and he had almost all of them with out doing any extra work with him. He was going to be our first CGC! We were starting to notice that his 'good' let wasn't looking so good so this angel took him to her vet and they decided that a dog that good needed some much needed surgery and offered to perform it at a reduced rate and Happy Day..the shelter said they'd pay for it! We took donations from anyone who could help so his surgery didn't effect any care for any other shelter guests but it was going to be done...Mulder would be whole again and live a long pain free life! But where would that life be. His angel told her friend who had recently lost her dog to cancer about this goofy dog named Mulder, she saw him briefly but was unimpressed until I brought him out and she could really see all of his personality. It was love at 2nd site..heck..he even gave his new dad a kiss when they first met! It sealed the deal. Mulder is now living in a wonderful home with people who love him...soon I'll go and see my little nephew because I can't be his mom I'll have to settle for Aunt Mary but that's ok. His mom said she thinks he misses us. He'll sit sometimes and just look out the door like he's waiting for someone to come and visit? So many people kept this wonderful soul happy and healthy in the 6 months he was with us but he will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Here's to you Mr. Mulder..may you be happy forever and ever
