Oh my where do I start. Well we got Cody when he was about 6 months old. My daughter had him and she had him tied up outside on a short rope because he tore up her carpet by the front door trying to get out all the time. Being young and with him as her first and only dog she had no idea how to take care of him. So mom comes to the rescue and takes him in. When he got used to being with us and having the huge yard to run in he was so happy. Well dad decides to take him with him in the pickup where ever he went. Cody thought this was great fun. So when dad went to work and left him home he was sad and decided that he just wouldn't stay in the yard. He dug out under the fence all the time so we put some railway ties all around the inside fence to keep him in the yard. Well our fence line went right next to our neighbours trailer. He got it in his head one day to escape so he dug a hole in thier skirting and went under their trailer and right threw to the other side and got out again. I was at my wits end so dad started taking him to work with him. He was delivering hay at this time. He loved it. His boss had some cows on the farm and Cody taught himself how to round them up and get them moving. He was in the back of a pickup one day with the boss's dog ( I know that is so wrong) Well they went around a corner and he fell out and the back tire ran over his leg and it was a trip to the vets to get it mended. The vet had to reset it and he had small wires sticking out of his leg for the longest time. They never did take them out just cut them off. Well after that dad went long hauling and Cody got to ride in the big truck all the time. He was an angel with dad. He never had to have a leash except when he went to the vets. Well Bonnie ( now deceased) went with them after a few years. She had a skin disease and she was allergic to dust mites and etc. Poor girl used to chew her fur right down to the skin. Cody was so happy to have a mate with him. She was with them for about a year before she got killed by the force of a train going by her and she was to close. Well again our boy was sick. He almost died on his way home. Dad had him at the vets out of town and all the way home he had and IV in his leg which dad kept a close eye on. His blood count was off the charts. He spent a week in our vets office. I can't remember if it is the white ones kill the red ones or visa versa. Anyway they had to go to the hospital and get some medicine for him that they give to humans to get his blood count back to normal. They vet figured a lot had to do with Bonnie dying and she was his soul mate. After he was all better he was back on the road with dad. About 3 years later dad got Dakota to take with them. Cody taught her a lot but she is another story. Just over a year ago Cody had a sore spot on the outside of his lip where his canine eye tooth was. So off to the vets he goes again. Only this time it was not a good prognosis. He has cancer. The vet said they could remove half his jaw and it might catch it all but we had no gurantees. We just couldn't do that to our boy. The vet gave him 6 months at the most. He sitll went back on the road with dad. He had to get a massive dose of Safflower Oil a day and it did put him into remission for a time. In the last few months of his life the cancer spread very fast. People were so freaked out at the way he looked so dad had to leave him home. He hated that tumor and every day he was covered in blood trying to dig it off his face. He was in no pain at any time. The vet put hin on pretisone for awhile to help the swelling. Well one day when dad was home and we had just gotten up I told dad Cody had to go to the vets as he had some swelling on his face and I was so worried about infection. I cleaned his mouth faithfully every day to prevent that. I knew in my heart that this would be his last visit to the vets and I did take his picture that morning before we left. The vet confirmed this for us. So he let us have 15 mins with our boy before he put him to sleep. But our boy was a fighter right up to the end. He almost made it a year. We had him cremated and he is now home with us. He is sadly missed by all of us but we know he is running free at the bridge. I am showing you a picture of him the day we took him in and please don't be shocked at the one after it as it is to show you what his face looked like and being a dog lover I am sure you can see like we did that it was not something to be afraid of. He sill looked like Cody no matter what. So that is Cody's story.
