When we first moved to VA, I knew I wanted a dog, well I got Jeb, a springer spanield who well, really didn't look the part, then I went back to the breeder and instead of giving my money back, she gave me another springer, Belle who was perfect.

Well you can guess they were spoiled, and Dale was disappointed that they were not hunting material, so he bought a Pointer Puppy, that was 12 yrs ago when Nate came into our home.  He was trained professionally to hunt and we did that a couple of years, then it just got harder and harder to go.  The springers were aging and in July 2001 I lost My Belle.  The following August I lost my Jeb at aged 16.  Nate was so forlorn I knew he needed a playmate, so I went searching for a Rescue Pointer.  That is when I found Pointer Rescue, Org.  I completed the application, had a home visit, a vet recommendation and now I had to chose a dog that was best matched for us.  It was a must that Nate meet the other dog, so we were sort of funneled toward Scout, who lived only an hour and half away.  I was going to a Motorcycle show and the foster mom was on her way home and we were to meet up that day to intro Nate and Scout.  Well Nate was a snob that day, he didn't grumble, just sort of ignored Scout, so we thought we'd better have another meeting.  A week later, Scout came to the Durant Ranch for a visit...Nate still ignored him at first, but then kept going over to him to smell him, well he did the puppy bow and they ran off in the dog lot happy as could be.  So Scout moved in and that evening they were fast asleep side by side in front of the fireplace.

That was november 2002 and since that time I have worked with Pointer Rescue, first as a volunteer, then a foster home, then transport coordinator and now Foster Coordinator.  Scout is a special needs dogs as he is loosing his site, he was diagnosed last year with Rod Cone Degenration, a genetic disease which is uncureable.  However, he is adjusting  and we are dealing with it and for the rest of his life, I will be his Seeing Eye Person.  He's a sweet boy and I love him dearly.

Also in December of 2002 my dear Dale got another Puppy from our breeder that he had rescued from another breeder, whos stud was Nates litter Mate.  That baby is my Toby, and while he is not really a rescue, he is safe at PointerHaven.  As have been Baylor, Lucy, Niki, Domino and many others who have stayed with us for overnights and transportations.
