On a Summer day in July as I left for work, I saw her across the street and she immediately saw me. I hurried to pull back in the drive and as soon as I opened the car door there she was bouncing across the street towards me. So I scooped her up and put her in the backyard until I got home. Whitney could not have been much more than 8 weeks old at the time. And normally when we find a pup we put up flyers and an ad in the paper but we decided not to this time because I could not understand how anyone could let one so small roam about and our instinct proved right because we check the neighborhood for flyers and also the lost & found ads in the paper and no one even tried to find her. So within 4 days we were totally in love with Miss Whitney. We had just lost Liesl in May to congestive heart failure and also been thru so much with Norman, as we tried to save his leg from an aggressive cancer only for him to lose his leg in April. Two weeks after we got Whitney, Norman suddenly became ill again and the cancer had returned. We had less than a week to prepare before he passed away and it was then that we knew that Liesl had sent Whitney to us to help us. Liesl and Norman were my heart dogs and they both had been ripped from my life in such a very short time. The Vet put Whitney's age at around the time Liesl had passed away and I do believe that Liesl sent Whitney to us to help us thru what lay ahead. She is so full of love and life and unbelievably sensitive and especially devoted to her Mom. The Vet thinks Whitney is a Basenji Mix but we just refer to her as a Whatyamacallit, LOL! But I do know she is my Blessing Baby and came to me just when I needed her the most. |
