I had made up my mind that I wouldn't bring another pup home, until Punky passed on, just didn't think it was fair to him, at 14 1/2. Everytime hubby would mention it, I think he thought it would be easier on me, with a 'baby' to care for, when Punky went to the bridge, I'd tell him that I was waiting, that Punky had already had to adjust to 3 grandchildren, and a hyper Huckleberry, and I didn't want to stress him further. On August 29, 2005, Punky either had a stroke, or some sort of episode. I took him to the vet, knowing that probably we had reached the end. They confirmed my fears, and I held him til the end.
Hubby took me to a place where they have lots of dogs to give away or sell, and I was not attracted to any of them, I kept telling him that I'd know the right one when I saw it. We were attracted to the Alaskan Husky pups, but I wanted to wait, as the price was more than I was willing to give, at that time.
I went to have my taxes done, in April 2006, nothing like putting it off til the last day, lol. The lady told me she had a litter of beagle pups, so I went out to see them, and told her I would think about it, and let her know, they were only 10 days old, so I had some time to think. I came home, and told hubby, who wasn't sure I wanted a beagle, lol. That weekend, niece, who is sister to our tax lady, and I were chatting on IM, and talking about the pups. She told me that a lady had just offered her a dog, a Doxie, who was 2 years old, and she had turned it down, as she had just gotten a new pup a few weeks earlier. I asked if it was still available, what colors, and was it dog and kid friendly...She called the lady, who she knows through her kids school, and said it was a male, long haired, black and tan, and was very dog and kid friendly...did I want it? I said yes, sight unseen. I met her half way, she transported the dog, I transported her a dryer, as I had just gotten a new, larger one. She was moving into a house she had just purchased, and was in need of a dryer. 'Brody' laid in my lap on the way home, as calm as you please, not needing the leash or collar He is probably registered, but I don't have any paperwork, and don't need it, he isn't going anywhere, ever, he has a forever home.. We got home, and I went into the fenced yard, dh went into house and let Huckleberry into the yard. They hit it off perfectly, and almost a year later, they have had very few tifs.
He has one problem, he hates cats, and they don't live very long if they get into HIS yard. I've had to rescue several before he does them in...He knows he isn't supposed to grab them, but he can't help himself.
And he is 'daddy's dog', and daddy never planned on having a 10 pound dog, lol.
