Oh boy, where do I begin? I grew up in a dog loving famly. My hubby, on the other hand, came from a cat loving family. Early in our marriage, we ended up adopting three cats. Two of them happen to be biological half-brothers. Please, don't get me wrong. I love cats too, and think they're wonderful animals as well. However, my heart longed for a dog. Over the past few years, my husband brought home several dogs, but none of them seemed to fit in our household very well.
My hubby loves to fish. One evening he went to fishing dyke, about 40 miles from our house. This fishing dyke, of course has a bait-and-shop. Inside of the shop is a small seafood and sandwich shop. A stay dog, who is Chocolate Lab/Collie hung around the dyke, but mostly around the sandwich shop. The owner would through her scraps of shrimp and seafood. The health department told the owner, that either the dog had to go, or her shop would be closed down. So the owner for the sandwich shop asked my hubby if he wanted a dog. He told her that I had been wanting a dog, but he would have to let me see her first before a final decision could be made. He came and drove me out there. I saw her and it was love at first sight. I knew I had to take her home. We named her Lady, because it just seemed to fit her.
Well time went on, and Lady ajusted well to our family. For the most part, she seemed happy and content, but we noticed that at times she seemed lonely and bored. We decided that what she needed was a canine companion. So one night, hubby and I were at the neighborhood night club. Actually it's just a small hangout where everybody else by name and face. That night a little Dachsund/Chow showed up at the club. Unfortunately our neighborhood is a prime drop off for unwanted pets. Nobody recognized this dog, and everyone just assumed she was another abandoned pet. So I decided to bring her home and try her out with Lady. On the ride home, she seemed a little nervous and aprehensive. So I kept trying to clam her, by saying things like, "It's ok Princess" and "Don't worry Princess, you'll be fine". So that's how she got her name. I brought her home, but told my hubby there was one stipulaton. If I saw any signs around the neighborhood, for a lost dog, or if someone came looking for a dog that fit her description, I would give her back. But in the meantime, she was my dog.
I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive about intoducing her to Lady. We had already had Lady for three months, so I was sure how Lady would take to her. I've heard that some dogs can be territorial when it comes to "the new kid in town". Fortunately this was not the case with Lady. She struck up and instant friendship with Princess, and it's been that way ever since. So now our family is finally complete.
