On one of the rescue forums here in BC, was a call out to foster this SHihTzu..I looked at her profile, it said, she was good with dogs, and cats, and was looking for a 1 week foster..What the heck..I called and I picked miss no- name up from the A/C. On my way over, I picked out a name, Emma, yes that would suit her.
When I got to the AC, I saw this tine, skinny scared little ShihTzu in a crate build for a Great Dane..lol..
I scooped her up and we took off. When we got home, Maggie sniffed her,and Emma sniffed Maggie and they were instant friends.
Emma, came from a puppy mill, she was a breeding dog, and was found at large here in the area.
Her nipples were hanging on the ground, she had hardly any hair on her body and was very very skinny, if she was 8 pounds, wet, that was a lot.
Of course the second day the AC called me and told me that they had a foster home on the island, I asked them if I could have her, so I went throught the process and I was allowed to keep her as my onw, my first foster failure 1-1..lol..
As she had not been spayed, we took her into the vet the next day, monday, I picked her up on tuesday and the vet was appalled, she had had so many litters, her uterus was black. and she had just finished weaning the litter.
Emma recoperated for almost a week and then she became very very ill. I took her to the vet and after some testing, found out she had anemia, but the vet did not connect it to her heart, but to cancer, in the meantime Emma was getting weaker and weaker and had lost her spirit. We then took her to another vet, and he checked her heart and her heart beat was 64, and it should have been about 120. So after an ultra sound and new meds, Emma started to feel better, and she cam home to us on August 11 2007. She ate and ate, she is a healthy little monkey now, and loves to dress up in pink frilly sweaters and pink bling collars. She loves her big sister Maggie and we love her. If we had not taken Emma to the new vet, Emma would not have made it. Like the vet says until this day: Emma had 3 legs in the grave..
No more, ther eare 4 legs running around the house..and thanks to FORTEKOR Emma might have many more years with us.
That is why I like to nominate my little special ShihTzu Emma
Her is Emma on July 31/07
