Six months after I adopted Jackie I thought that she would like to have another dog for company so I started looking on Petfinder.com for Golden Retriever-type dogs. I saw Maya's picture and saw what a happy, pretty girl she was and decided she was the one. She was a 1-1/2 year old Golden Retriever/Husky mix and was an owner-surrender. Apparently her owners kept her tied up in the back yard all by herself all day, and when she barked they turned the hose on her. I've helped her get over most of her fear of the hose now finally.
Here is Maya's Petfinder picture
I took Jackie to meet her, and they got along just great and were playing together. Since it was a work day, I went back the next day to pick up Maya so that I could have the whole weekend to get her accustomed to my house and to Jackie and me.
When I picked Maya up, I noticed she had a bump on her nose, but didn't think much of it at the time. As the day went on, she got more bumps on her nose and face and I was thinking "weren't you a lot prettier yesterday?" LOL
As her face started swelling, I took her to the emergency vet and they said she had an allergic reaction to something, so they gave her something (can't remember what), and told me to give her Benadryl. Apparently, earlier that day Maya had gotten loose and one of the foster mom's horses pooped on Maya's head. LOL! That's the only thing I could think of that could have caused the reaction.
The first night, Jackie and Maya fell asleep on the sofa together, and they've been best friends ever since.
I soon found out that Maya was a barker and a fence jumper. I put a citronella spray bark collar on her when she was outside, and I put her on a 45-foot cable attached to a harness. She and Jackie could still play and run and have fun and not get tangled up. Of course I always watched them the whole time they were outside. Here's Maya chasing Jackie.
Two years ago I put up a 6-foot chain link fence and now Maya gets to be free! It's so nice to see her without being cabled. Here she is (with Pooh Bear) on one of her first days of freedom.
Maya is a very affectionate and touchy-feely goofy girl and she's a real clown.
And if there's a mud puddle, she's in it.
Here she is with a major case of the zoomies after coming out of the doggie pool

I love my goofy lovable Maya. Jackie and I are so glad that I found her and was able to give her a loving forever home. And she welcomed her little "brother" Pooh Bear into our family like he had been with us forever. Peg (the other one) |
