The sacred hearth and heather spell for the cure of all skin ailments
Procure a little hand-besom or heather (better still if you make it yourself) and get up in the morning at sunrise. Eat nothing and say nothing, but go straight to the hearth and brush all the ashes and cinders into a corner so that it is swept clean. Then bend over and spit
upon the newly swept hearth, put the index finger of the right hand into
the spittle and make with it the sign of the cross on the afflicted area
of the skin, letting your touch be light but firm. Work this spell in the same way on nine successive mornings and your skin troubles will disappear.
The spell can also be worked if a few pine cones are burnt in a pot, and
their ashes scattered on the hearth before going to bed.
