You will need:
A small box (cardboard or wood)
A piece of Linen
Lavender essential oil
A black candle
A vase of beautiful coloured flowers
A handful each of the herbs, vervain and yarrow
Mandarin essential oil
A silver candle
A yellow ribbon
A lock of your own hair

Set up an altar in your home - the top of a small table or chest, where it won't be disturbed. Place the black candle at the back with the box and leave everything else off the altar for the moment, lighting the candle. Sit in front and invoke the Queen of the Witches, the Goddess, Diana: "Diana - Queen of the Heavens, bless me with your divine presence" Feel her come to you as a serene yet incredibly strong and powerful presence.

Now focus on the sadness you wish to release - you are safe in Diana's arms - let it pour out of you and catch a tear with the linen, placing it in the box. When you are ready, drop three drops of lavender oil on the linen saying,
"I release you, I release you, I release you."
Now place the lid on the box and snuff the black candle with your fingertips. It is important that you honour and acknowledge your sadness as valid and justified, but it is time now to let it go.

Now place the flowers on the altar and the silver candle, lighting it. Anoint yourself at the heart and third eye (between your eyebrows) with the mandarin oil. Take the mixture of herbs and sprinkle them in a sunwise (anti-clockwise) direction to make a circle on your altar. Place in the centre your lock of hair and the ribbon. Hold your hands over these and ask Diana to move her energy through you so that you can fortify these things with the strongest and purest essence of your lifeforce. Feel her love move through you like silver light and pulse out of the palms of your hands and into the herb circle. When you are ready say:
"Above all things I deserve to be happy" or something similar in your own words that expresses your desire for happiness.

Now tie the yellow ribbon around the hair three times saying:
"Sweet joy is bound to me.
Happiness comes easily.
As the tides of life ebb and flow I avoid their undertow."

Now tie the ribbon with five knots saying with each knot:
"By one this spell is done
By two it will come true
By three so mote it be
By four for the good of all
By five so shall love thrive"

Thank the Goddess Diana for assisting your rite and bid her love and farewell. Keep the altar set up for as long as you want, lighting the silver candle to re-empower your ritual whenever you need to. (Keep the flowers fresh too! Or perhaps place a growing pot of vervain there so that it's lifeforce can continue to build the strength of your spell.) Any time you need to, meditate in front of your altar on your divine right to be happy - no matter what trials are placed in your path - the greatest and most honourable people often have the hardest lessons.
