Feng Shui Q&A
by Suzee Miller

Question: Clutter is an eternal problem in my house. Our stuff takes over ... piles in the house, stacks in the garage. It looks like a bomb went of in one of teen's bedroom. My husband does not accept Feng Shui theories and thinks I'm a little out of it for applying some of the principles to our home. Any suggestions to help?

Answer: Feng Shui is about common sense and about living in a minimalistic environment, inside and outside of our bodies. Your home cannot support your dreams and goals until it is free of clutter. Space clearing is the first step in the process of creating good Feng Shui. Without it, you and your family will be stuck someplace in your lives, or sometimes in all areas of your lives. I suggest taking small steps to begin with, by removing a box of "clutter" a day. In 30 days you will begin to see a visible difference, one that will make you want to space clear your life forever!

Question: Can Feng Shui hurdle this difficult marketplace? I was blitz'n and it's like everything stopped all at once. I need help.

Answer: The answer is both yes and no. Feng Shui can command top dollar in any market, but it cannot hurdle an over priced listing. We don't know where the bottom is yet, but I will share this with you. Over 80 percent of the Realtors in our certification course are having their best year, ever, in real estate! It's because they have learned how to communicate elementally with their clients and have learned how to set "powerful" intention within the Ba-gua.

Question: I recently purchased a new home and was wondering if the design on my pointed roof top are poison arrows? If yes, then how do I correct this design?

Answer: If it's on top of your roof, it actually protects you. It's the neighbor across from you that needs to be concerned! The neighbor needs to keep Sha chi ... destructive energy ... moving away from their home.

The placement of a wind chime, flag, wind sock or a moving metal object will mitigate some of the negative effect. However, if the arrows are severe, more than this should be considered.

Question: I just received my "soft wood" element audio and slept towards the southeast last night. I slept well but now my head is in direct alignment with the door to a bedroom that empties into a long hallway. If my door is closed, would the long hallway impact my health.

Answer: Yes. Chi moves through everything, even mountains. It's a powerful, invisible life force. A long hallway creates a fast moving pathway of energy, known as a poison arrow. I would select one of your three other good directions to play safe, especially if you are the metal element. If there was not a long hallway present, you would be fine sleeping the way you are.

Question: I purchased a house that's on lot # 4 and there are 2 4's in the address too. I love the house but heard it's bad Feng Shui to have 4's. Should I cancel the contract?

Answer: If you are not Chinese or Asian, it will not affect you. The number four in Chinese sounds like the word death, thus they fear this number. Set the intention that your home is totally protected with or without fours!

Question: I purchased in China a gift item of two small decorated bells with a red tassel in the center with a piece of jade on the tassel. I was told that this is a Feng Shui item of good luck. Could you please elaborate?

Answer: It's strictly an ornament of Chinese tradition (belief); it has nothing to do with classical Feng Shui. However, with intention, you can place it in the children/creativity gua area of your home to lift the Chi for creativity and peace.

Question: I am a Realtor and I have had a listing on the market 95 days now, that has 100 percent of friendly relations missing and all of career area missing, what can I do to sell this house?

Answer: It is impossible to have both the Career and Friendly Relations/Benefactors gua areas missing. What you have described is actually an extension of Spirituality and Knowledge. This is a good thing, not bad thing! Capitalize on it and redo the Feng Shui accordingly.

Question: Do I include the garage in the Ba-gua when I Feng Shui a home?

Answer: Include the garage in the energy blueprint of your Feng Shui, if it cuts into the floor plan (or it takes away part of a square). If the garage extends outside the parameters of the structure or is free standing, it is not included in the Ba-gua.

Question: We are a software company. When we Feng Shui our booth for the next expo, should we include a fountain in the Wealth area?

Answer: Water is not a good element at a computer/software show, as Water puts out Fire -- your industry's element. I would recommend a green plant or a beautiful light fixture in the Wealth gua instead to either metaphorically grow the wealth or light up the wealth.

Question: What is the best shape carpet to have at the entry way of my home?

Answer: If the entry room allows, I always suggest octagon, oval or round to slow down and spin the Chi as it enters your home. This allows energy to circulate everywhere, as energy follows whatever pathway it is shown, including climbing walls and ceilings too!

Question: Is there any significance with grapes in Feng Shui? We found a piece we love with simulated jade; we put it in the Creativity gua.

Answer: Grapes represent the fruit of the Earth, thus it is a great metaphor for health and growing business/investments. A better placement would be in the Health or Wealth guas for growth and good fortune.

Question: I'm thinking of selling my home and would like to know the best place to put the For Sale sign. I've been told both the right and the left of the front door. I'm confused and thought you could help me.

Answer: Typically the right side of the property is the best place for a for sale sign; however, each property is different based on the shape of the land and the shape of the house. So, believe it or not, your property knows the best place for the sign! If you are a Realtor you can learn about the importance of placement (and more) in our Feng Shui Certification course.

Question: When people find out which Element they are, are their most compatible romantic partners the same element as they are, or the opposite element?

Answer: No doubt opposites do attract; however generally speaking, it is easier being with a compatible element, than one in an opposite Group. In classical Feng Shui, the elements are considered either East Group or West Group people. If you don't know someone's element, click onto ChiQuiz.com to find out more about them and yourself! Our element audios go into greater detail on this sophisticated school of Feng Shui called Eight Mansions.

Question: Can you please tell me the correct placement of candles that are wood, fire, earth, water and metal for maximum effectiveness in my home?

Answer: In truth there isn't any correct placement. It's strictly a marketing gimmick. Think about it. Did the Chinese have colored candles 3,000 years ago? I just got back from mainland China and never saw one candle for sale anywhere, not even white!
