Source of beliefs 

One theory for fearies were that they were a race of people living amongst the British isles, that were forced into hiding by invaders

Another theory is that they were once originally worshipped as gods but then dwindled down into a lesser state with the coming of christianity

A third theory was that faeries were a folkloric belief that concerned the dead as they were often mentioned in stories along side ghosts
