As you begin your work with Faeries you will find out many things about them that aren’t widely known and that stories and media get incorrect.

The aim of the first lesson at our NSU is just to teach you all some basic facts about the Fae that will help you on your way.

The few lessons will be very simple as we get to know the fae but the information you will be given is important. Make of it what you will you can write it all in your books of Elfin or perhaps just the bits you don’t know so you’ll remember, put it into your own words and if you wish decorate your pages to your liking, maybe you wont want to write any of it down

I’ll be writing down the bits that I feel are valuable as I would like to pass my book down to my daughter

Lesson One : Basic facts

What is a faerie?

Faeries roles are varied and faeries themselves come in many forms, shapes and sizes, but all in all they are spiritual manifestations that visit our planet to guide and guard us and Mother Nature. Some faeries can be seen to be dangerous but it is unknown whether this is true or not as media and other religions have caused this portrayal, however some faeries are very well known to mislead humans and we’ll learn about them later

4 main ‘categories’ of fae

(You might want to write this bit down)

Enchanters and Enchantresses: It is said that these are faeries born into human bodies to help the 2 work closer together some people do believe that there are humans with faerie souls. You can usually sense this people as they have physical fae traits and are sensitive souls.

The Elfin Folk: These are rarely winged faeries that are the same size and build as humans, they are controlled by the faerie kings and queens (who we will learn off and how to contact them in later lessons). These faeries remain silent and unseen unless they choose otherwise.

Elementals: These are true nature spirits and include sylphs of the air mermaids of the waters gnomes of the earth and for fire salamanders.

Creatures and demons: Not what people seem to think of when the word faerie is said to them. But dragons mermaids trolls and even Nessie and Bigfoot all come under the faerie race.

Faeries and their wings

Not all faeries have wings this is something that has been depicted by media and infact only those of the elemental race are winged. And even then there are people who believe these not to be wings but to be an energy form that are carrying the fae through the air, whether you believe they are wings or an energy form is entirely up to you as working with faeries is all about your personal belief but it is important to know that only elemental faeries are winged.

                               The hidden kingdom

Is described as a bubble hidden but living within our world so that they can do their work for Mother Nature. Across the UK there are very famous portals such as places in Somerset and Ireland

The hidden kingdom is described as the land of in between by those who have visited it; a place where the sun never rises or sets

Faeries in cultures

Faeries are recognised throughout the world but are called many names by the different cultures. It is interesting to know that faerie royalty and therefore the faerie ‘homeland’ is the United Kingdom this is where the true blood line of faeries lies, nowadays though faeries live and work right across the globe.

Thanking a faerie

Most importantly what we all need to know as we embark on our journey to learn, meet and work with Faeries is how to thank them

This can be done in several ways but please remember that faeries dislike to be thanked directly. You can always leave them a gift such as bread, milk, cake or honey and place it into something preferably bio degradable or even an egg shell. Place it on your altar, your faerie corner in the garden, or if you have neither of these just a quiet space within your home. Although they can’t physically take the things from our world back to theirs they will take the essence.
